i've felt this way for a while, but recently the way I handled a few things online has pretty much made me want to share my point on this subject i'm convinced that once you are at a certain level with learning, social interaction, and inquisitive you can solve ANY problem, build ANYTHING, learn ANYTHING off the internet quicker and more efficiently than learning from outside sources, ie. teachers, books, etc. just this morning i've solved 2 problems with ease that saved me countless hours of labor, and perhaps alot of money Forums, Wiki's, Search Engines i'm at the point where, why should I look anywhere else when the answer will almost undoubtably be found quicker on the net i guess i'm one step away from waking up in the matrix
Where else can you order weed smoking apparatuses, view porn, listen to music, watch movies, learn how to make anything from a handbasket to a bomb, and culturally enrich yourself within a space of 2 hours?
I've done all of my schooling through the internet since 9th grade. The school system will one day go away.
Yeah, its fucked up that we have this enormous resource at our finger-tips that lets us find just about anything in the world (and beyond) in seconds. I think all this technology has also crippled us to an extent though. More people are watching funny videos on YouTube and downloading with iTunes, while less and less care to learn about things that truly matter, the things that will impact all of our lives. Most people don't realize there is more to the internet than entertainment, which is what frustrates me. Look at how outspoken and involved people were during the 60s/70s, and now, we have become FAR less outspoken, despite having the best and most thorough teacher one could possibly imagine at our very fingertips.
I agree that the internet is most effective in the sense of speed and variety of endless information but I definately learn and retain more meaningful information sitting down with my grandparents or professors talking in depth.
^ yea thats definatly the huge downside kids these days dont need sports equipment, or social interaction when they have computers and MSN
Dont trust wikipedia. My history teacher once wrote in under the war of 1812 that ended on the year 1811. It took a week before it was fixed. I only use wikipedia for its references.
I totally agree. The internet lacks the connection, the personal qualities that we know and love, and which we hold closest to our hearts, and keep in our minds forever. I think as a species we tend to crave connections, and intimacy, and that is what we tend to keep closest to us. For that reason, the internet could never replace a human.
I think the internet and other quick to satisfy items in this world is why so many people these days are impatient or have ADD... you look at lesser fortunate countries and they are in no hurry to get anywhere.. we're constantly wanting things exponentially faster
i def agree that its decreasing the active portion of our childhood in high school i noticed a huge decrease in kids playing any kind of sport and this is only from 2 years younger i barely spent anytime on the computer as a child i was playing outside and playing sports all day now it seems i spend so much time on my computer but i suppose everything isnt as fun as it used to be
I love learning off the internet. I really seem to remember things I've learned off the internet better than things I've learned anywhere else. Actually, this morning I was considering becoming homeschooled. School is just so much stress and I'm not sure if I can take it, even for another year. Especially when I could NOT wake up at 5 am, and then NOT be around fucking shitty people all day, and NOT be made fun of.... etc....
Think about how much money internet schools make though. I'm not talking about anytme soon, but I'm sure one day.
I say it depends on what you are trying to learn and how you personaly learn things most effectively. I leanr much faster through conversation than I do by reading so a face to face is still much better for me.
