Oh mamas (and daddies!) I could REALLY use your help! My mom has begun her annual "Y'all should get your flu shots!" campaign. She's always been a huge proponent of vaxxes - she had childhood friends that died of German Measles, and she watched my aunt SLOWLY heal from polio, and she's deathly afraid of watching anyone else go through that.

This year my mom was diagnosed with diabetes. And she's taken it VERY seriously. She drank 3-4 cans/bottles of Pepsi (not diet) literally EVERY day for the past 40 years, and she quit completely the day she found out she was diabetic. She's lost about 30 pounds, and has turned her diet around so much in the past 6 months that she only has to see a diabetic specialist once a year. And I am SO proud of her, truly I am. But now she's sending me emails (and it'll be hundreds over the next few months) about how important it is for people with diabetes to get their flu shots AND for people they're AROUND to get one as well!

I'm against vaxxing. Especially for those things that are not life-threatening... but now knowing that my son has Aspergers Syndrome & KNOWING that one of the leading "causes" of AS is via vaxxes... I don't want to "push my luck" and add anything else foreign into either of my kids' systems. I know what's in those shots now, and I REALLY don't want ANY of that in them!

I know there are anti-vax websites out there, but most of the ones I'm finding seem to cover the evils of long-term shots. This isn't going to be an easy battle because I'm fighting the whole "if you won't do this, you must want me to die" rant. Does anyone know where there is information on the flu shot specifically? OR on the links between ASDs & vaccinations? She won't talk to me about this outright, because I'll just tell her I'm not vaxxing & leave before we start screaming at each other. So I figure the easiest way to handle this at this point is to match her emails, one for one pointing out why it's dangerous for me to be putting this into my kids. She loves medical reports & statistics... so if anyone knows where those are I would LOVE to find them! A quick google isn't bringing much up & I'm guessing I'm just not typing in the right key-words. I've got a call in to my son's specialist too, but it can take weeks to hear back from him. Does ANYONE happen to have any of these links bookmarked?
    love,
    mom

Hmmm not sure on the flu one....but it always makes me deathly ill for at least three days after I receive it, so I have stopped getting it.

My mom works for Schering Plough I can ask her....when I was small you let me get them all but the Hepatits one....for whatever reason.

Don't know the sites, but I do know the ingredients:

raw eggs (posing a risk of salmonella), formaldehyde, ether, small doses of mercury and other heavy metals, as well as detergent and the live/dead virus.

    Yummy nice mix there, huh?

flu is the only one I'll get (other lung issues make it the lesser of two evils, but it is still an evil).
looks like stormy got you a good starting place.
check over at Mothering dot com's boards. I'm sure it's been discussed well over there (then bring all the info back so we can discuss it here)
