Its nice to visit the Woodstock Site, Yasgurs Farm in Bethel, NY.

Its in The Catskills, near the Delaware River.

One can see the bowl, a natural amphtheater, there is a historical monument to commermate The Festival put there by NY State. Its a big field.
You can walk around, catch the vibes. Catskills are a beautiful place.

Can't stay there but there is camping one mile away at a nice campsite with The Lake, its Filippini Pond. And yes you can swim there.

Bethel / White Lake, NY is a funky old dairy and farming village.

At this time the place has experienced rapid development as a place for second homes and ranchettes with quite a few " gentlemans horse farms" Formerly open spaces are now fenced off to keep the horses in, (and to keep the hippie pilgrims out)

Used to be a few bungalow colonies for conservative working class families, seems the development has pushed that out too. New Yorks exurbia has grown a lot in the past 30 years. High housing prices have pushed commuters into the Catskills and its less of a vacation place.
But its still the beautiful country seen in the movie.

Cool locals like June Gelish and Allen Garrity used to let pilgrims camp on thier lands on the Woodstock anniversary, but nowadays as the new residents do not want dirty hippies and will focus the authorities on to landowners who host gatherings and its a hassle for them. They are threatened with arrest for sponsoring gatherings.

As I stand on the site of the festival I can see the new ranches and fences surrounding the sacred field. The housing developments are the physicial manisfestation of all the changes in our society that have taken place since those haylocon days. Fond memory and hard reality mix together at this place.

So you children of the world, listen to what I say
If you want a better place to live in spread the word today
Show the world that love is still alive, you must be brave
Or you children of today are children of the grave.

WoodstockChild, i think i know how you feel. I would feel the same i guess. A few days ago i had this serious conversation with my parents about me. and i didnt know what what bothering me. Suddenly the topic 'the beatles' came, and i CRIED. I cried my eyes out. About John Lennon, and George Harrison and the 60's and the music and all those things.

maybe you should talk to some people about it that you trust. It helped with me. though i still feel sad about it. But don't cut yourself off from the world, because then you can't cary it no longer. write about it. Express yourself in other things, cos locking things up made me feel sooo bad. i hope you'll find a good solution, till then, you're not the only one [IMG]

    Peace & Love.

Hey Woodstockchild, that's really cool about the past life stuff. I bet lots of people here were there just like you. WHat I think you should do is get in touch with all those memories and write them down. Put them in a story line and fill in the blanks any way you want. Really get immersed in the histry and all too from a personal perspective. It could be a friggin awesome story or novel!

We' the acid eaters of the 60s were a small group at first that turned into this nation wide thing. We grew our hair and wanted to play music and paint pictures and eat LSD and make lots of love. This sounds so boring or commonplace now but not then.
We were doing everything our parents taught us not to do. We protested the war in Viet Nam and we used drugs and had casual sex-unprotected-as aids had not yet been invented-We all caught the clap and took penicilian for it-no big deal-we danced at the music halls and laughed and sang and layed around on sunny days in Golden Gate park and smoked pot that was so weak it took nearly a whole joint to feel it.
We were a small group but we were all on the same page-we thought alot alike-we wanted the war to end and our leaders to be honest. We had the same type of president then as we now have. A war monger that won't listen to anyone or be willing to change his stubborn mindset. We got Ronald Reagan to stop the war. America-not "us" but the whole country-When we stop all the you vs. us crap we will again take back the office of president that Bush has hijacked.
But it takes the whole country to unite as one voice-so if you find yourself speaking to a Republican about stopping the war-act and sound smart. Sound like you want not whats good for your party but whats good for the nation. And ending this war is good for the world-We need to bring home these troups that have tried to make a difference and they have to some degree. They are our people and we owe them thanks-They are not to be blamed for being lied to and joining the service to stop the people who bombed us-Our people joined with a good heart and reason to fight the enemy which is always a good reason-It's called survival-Some people believe that all the "hippy's" of my generation were complete peace loving people and would turn the other cheek-maybe a few were but most people are not willing to stand there and let someone beat up on them-Hippy's did love peace and chose negotiaton or violence whenever possible but in the real world if you are walking down a street-even "Love Street"' and someone pulls a gun on you-you fight or run-Peace is always the preffered path to take but not always an option-When I think back to the days of 66 and 7' I have mixed feelings-Sometimes it was great-other times I was hungry alot or scared and lonely-so-life is what you make it-yesterday is the same as today-you make the day as good or bad as you want and if it is not as good as you want it to be-then change it-if you are struggling with a drug or alcohol problem-fix it-clean it up-never allow anything to own your soul-be good to yourself and enjoy your time on Earth-
