John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers were another great group out of England. The album John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers w/ Eric Clapton is some fine music; also known as The Beano album. Check out the song Bernard Jenkins. Other fine ax player swho played with John Mayall were Jimmy Page (Led Zepplin), Peter Green (early Fleetwood Mac) and Jack Bruce played bass. Bruce and Clapton went on to form Cream with Ginger Baker on skins.

You don't get any better of an example of firey, raw blues power than Eric Clapton's playing on the Bluesbreakers album... Simply breathtaking!

Just take a listen to 'Have You Heard"...

You guys should check this girl and group out. Looks like she's opening solo for the Bluesbreakers in October in New Hampshire. I just saw her with her whole band at a festival and they were great. They do a myriad of styles, but are definitely rooted in soul. http://www.myspace.com/jenkearneythelostonion
Her albums are up on Itunes too, I just put them on my ipod.
