WHENEVER I go on Myspace and look at a girls "Music" section, expecting to see a diverse list of excellence. I ALWAYS SEE THE FOLLOWING: "I'll listen to almost anything, besides opera or jazz lol" WTF? How fucking random.. They'll listen to all of the listed genres. African Blues Caribbean Children's Classical Electronic Folk Funk Jazz Traditional Industrial Latin March Middle Eastern Military New Age Novelty R&B Soul Speedcore Hip-Hop Reggae Religious and Devotional Rock and Pop World Fusion But, they just won't subject themselves to OPERA??? JAZZ?? Where on the fucking planet is Opera or JAZZ commercially aired??? As if they studied those genres of music, broke down the science and decided they didn't have a taste for them. What the life?
our college station plays jazz every weekday from 8am to 8pm. just because there's one psuedo-successful jazz singer on the faculty, they think we're jazz university. i wouldn't mind if it was played once a week or even daily for less time, but almost all the other shows are better in my opinion so it's kind of a waste
Todays youth has lost the passion for music we once had. Most people only listen to the stuff everyone else is listening to, because it's the cool thing to do. Go to my myspace....is my music section worthy?? myspace.com/caressmedown420 I think thats it...if not my display name is Happily in a Daze..... Belch
well, maybe it's not the passion for music so much as the LOYALTY AND IMAGE that's gone away. my ex was an adamant electronica guy. anything outside of that was a no go. it was really TEDIOUS. i grew up in a multinational, multiethnic background, and was a social free-floater. i was exposed to any number of musical styles that have brought me a lot of joy. i remember some girls in a car next to mine at a stoplight making fun of me for listening to the mexican station. i don't even know what kindof music it's called, but sometimes, that's all i wanna hear. it makes me happy, even if i don't know what they're saying.
When someone says something like "I like all kinds of music... except country" or "I can listen to anything except rap" I just take that as, "When it comes to music, I don't really give a shit. I don't really listen to it anyway, so it doesn't matter."
Yeah but sometimes that is easier then me saying I like hip hop, some rap, classic rock, blues, polka, african, carribean, reggae, some modern rock, some punk, a little drum and base, a little house, bluegrass, folk, r&b, jam, booty house at times, jazz, salsa and classical. (which I do like some of all those things)
so y not message them and say that? just say hii i knwo of this speedcore festival or this metal concert wanna come since you listen to it? && see what they say. then call them out for being stupid.
i don't like opera. never did. i do like chants and classical choral music. it's beautiful. but i'm not one of those twats who holds firm to one style of music because it disctates the core of my personality and identifies me. i'm different all the time, depending on my mood. sometimes i wanna beat the shit out of someone, sometimes i wanna read a book and listen to some mozart or liszt. who cares?
well i DO know, and occasionally listen to, where opera and jazz are aired! generally to the far left end of the fm dial, along with pacifica stations and the indies. locally we have kxpr; classics, and kxjz; jazz, both npr stations, known collectively as capitol public broadcasting. most of the thime, when i'm listining to the radidio at all, it's on kvmr, victorian musium radio, up in nervana silly, a totally comunity indie, kvmr.org on the web. which plays a little bit of damd near everything, music of the world, voice of the community, more or less like pacifica stations do, only with a little more music and a little less yak, but not ever the total automaton playlists of comercial clear channel crap. they don't play much opera either, they leave that to kxpr or whatever its called, capitol public radio, the npr stations, but they do have a couple of their own jazz shows, along with celtic, reggie, greatful dead reruns, the other side, patchouli haze, strawberry beatles for ever, dreamwalk, kani kapila, out of africa, salsamento, even blue ass grass in the early mornings, and red heavin jam bands in the evening, real LOCAL local news, and amy's democracy now, during the weekday evening news hours, everything BUT most of what you hear most other places. gohd i sound like a promo for the damd thing, but my point is, YES JAZZ AND EVEN OPERA DO GET AIR PLAY if you want to look for it, even if corporate media never really had given either the time of day. so who the hell needs corporate pablum anyway? =^^= .../\...
