does anyone here Run Brefoot? that must be fun... but i think it would prorlly hurt if u were on sidewalk or concrete
Running on grass barefoot is bliss. In high school P.E. senior year, it was really nice out one day when we all decided to play soccer barefoot. No, the ball wasn't too hard. It was so fun...I can run way faster without shoes on.
I sometimes go jogging barefoot, never more than a mile or so, though. Running with shoes on makes my knee hurt. Have you seen Ken Saxton's www.runningbarefoot.com website? He runs a barefoot marathon every month!
if you live near the ocean, run barefoot in sand. it will really work your calves. a million years ago when I was in school, I ran barefoot. if you aren't used to it, it could hurt for a while as your feet/body isn't used to the action. I find I run lighter and with more ease.
I just started doing that a few weeks ago. I haven't done much of it, since I got sick the next day after my first (serious) run.
I saw a posting from a lady in Europe. She’s an avid barefoot runner and competes in 5 and 10 K races barefoot. She posted some pics of her soles and they were incredibly thick and tough, much more so than the average barefoot walker. I’ll try to find where I saw that and post her photos.
When I was in hs I ran cross-country barefoot. In college I didn't make the team, but still ran barefoot, and played soccer (intermural) barefoot as well. Bobby
I used to run, hike and play sports barefoot. I've been stepped on a few times playing soccer and football, but on the baseball field I could be a regular Shoeless Joe Jackson.
Running barefoot is fun. Weird on cement; to quote my friend the other day while running down the road barefoot together, "yo, cement is fucked up huh?" Running in the woods is a challenge, but on sand it's great.
I would worry about my shins running on pavement for too long... though, then again, I've seen people do it in other countries. Once again, the human body adapts, with a little healthy pain here and there.
do some good stretching excersizes and the shin problems will go away. You really need to have your calves loose so they don't over tax your shins. A good balance between the front and back of the lower leg will take the presure off the shins. Pavement running is not nearly as much fun as natural trails. And natural trails strengthen your ankles more.
Since I am not the only one who has posted here saying that they run faster when barefoot, would it not make sense to and maybe even be the way we were made to run by our Creator. Shoes only give us a disadvantage.
I first ran on roads/pavements of London barefoot 25 years ago as a student. I was always conscious of people looking so stopped. I've just strated again, running four times a week in the morning barefoot for between 1.5 - 3 miles. After about the first couple of minutes I don;t even notice people looking and talking. I love the feeling of the hard suface against the feet and actually find tough concrete and gritty parts easier when running than walking. If it's not too cold also sometimes take shirt off and just run in shorts. It's really emancipating and has got me running more reglarlyagain and further each time!
I run 50+ miles per week barefoot on concrete and asphalt. I absolutely love it and your feet do not have to become like leather. They only have to become healthy and relaxed. Most feet are weak from over dependence on shoes and tense up when walking on anything out doors. check out <no spam please>
I ran barefoot for awhile when I was in high school. It is actually pretty easy to get conditioned to run on smooth asphalt if it is cool enough. Your stride really adjusts. I want to start running again and am going to give barefoot running another try. When I wore shoes to run I found it too easy to get into a jarring stride. Played hell on my back. I am hoping barefoot running with promote a smoother stride.
Another advantage of running barefoot (apart from protecting my delicate knee joints) is that it keeps your feet warm in winter!
100% barefoot runner. Concrete ('sidewalk') is no problem. Just take your time to get sued to it and you soon find its easy, much more motivating and, as for knee pains, or ankle pains - a thing of the past!
Run Barefoot ??? I do not think it is a good idea a few times per year to run barefoot but the other days to wear shoes. Because the feet are not got used to walk barefoot. It could be painful if some little stones / sand, etc. The best is barefoot EVERY DAY EVERYWHERE from springs to autumns(falls). If you do so, you can run barefoot without any pain!
