i dont know what it is but i dont really listen to music in english any more....... i mean i havnt strictly boycotted english music but i havnt downloaded a new english song in like forever...... iv been listening to alot of yiddish, french and japanese music lately and its kind of nice just listening to music without understanding it sometimes....and people listen to music because it sounds nice right? so eh what the hell i tried german but the language sounded verry forceful and i couldnt really get into how it sounded.... does anyone know or heard of a website that is like a international music exchange or something? or would all the copyrights and stuff on all the music be too heavy for people to share their music with one another over the net
Do you mean traditional music from other countries or contemporary? I only listen to a few bands from England and Usa, Most of the music I listen to comes from Germany, Norway, Japan. And yeah Id definatley say I enjoy music more without understanding the lyrics- it lets you focus on the melody and the atmosphere, and in my opinion instrumental music is more intense.
I'll tell you some good artists from around that I'm into. I love foreign music, actually way better than american or english. Tujiko Noriko - japanese singer, its labeled as "avant-pop" I really dig it. For me it employs a sense of being in japan, which I like. Sigur Ros - Icelandic "post-rock" band. Fucking amazing soundscapes. Mum - Another icelandic band, but this one is more expirimental/electronic. It does have vocals though. Avey tare and Kria brekken - They just released an album and its all backwards, its half american half icelandic, but its pretty good. Toumani diabate - A traidtional kora player that makes some kick ass shit. Ruins is a pretty good noise rock band, but if you aren't into that then just bypass them. They're japanese.
I listen to a great deal of music sung in French and German, and also quite a lot of Norwegian, Swedish, Polish, Ukrainian, Spanish, and even archaic versions of said languages and a few made-up languages.
Most of the bands I know that sing in their native (or yet another) language are black metal bands though, so you probably wouldn't like it. But try Ska-P, a really awesome Spanish political ska punk band.
^ Oh, you're always recomending Ska-P, move to something else!... I'm kidding, they're pretty great and I listen to them without knowing what they're saying (same as Kaleidoscopio from Portugal (or Brazil, I'm not sure), or Laibach from Slovenia or Skalariak from Spain or manu Chao or........you get the point...)
You're new to this whole internet thing, or what? There are countless of ways to get all the music you could want, album after album after album. Soulseek, torrents, blogspot pages offering albums through rapidshare... Copyright, lol.
I don't really mind another language, but it's not the most important thing from a foreign band. It's the music. That being said, I really dig the norwegian and swedish languages Spanish can be really pleasant too. But I prefer english, even more then dutch.
The English lingo has a way with putting together lyrics and arrangements that's just not the same with other languages. Yeah, I'm in the lingo biz...does it show?!
I listen to all sorts of different world beats/folk etc. Favourite stuffs from Latin America, the Caribbean, Japan, China, Greece, Arabic and African nations.
