me walking into staff camping with bergen taz with smile that reminds me of henry bear somehow showmet aka lithium watching for fires up fire tower reminds me of second world war fireman picture could be the hat
main stage at reading part of view from fire tower The fire tower surrounded by fencing making it harder for people to pull tower down
That camp was in quite camping you had to go over a river to get to the main site where you had lots of loons setting fire to their tents , they wouldnt dare do that with showmet watching them
Do you need any special qualifications to be a fire warden? It looks far more appealing than the litter picking gig! Did you all have a good time? Who'd d'you see and that?
You just need to be able to stand still on a 20ft scaffold tower for 12 hours overnight in the freezing cold while people yell names at you... yeah that's pretty much it Because of the 12 hour night shifts and no sleep I only saw a few bands - Gogol Bordello, The Shins, Dinosaur Jr, Interpol, Bloc Party, Kate Nash, Panic at the disco, Pigeon Detectives (rubbish), Nine Inch Nails, missed Arcade Fire and New Young Pony Club but they looked pretty good from the coverage
Woah, 12 hours, ay? Not sounding so appealing anymore Sounds to me like you did very well to catch so many bands doing those shifts. Did you have a favourite from the weekend?
I had a sweet time - 4 hour shifts, campaigning for Oxfam (11am -3pm Fri,Sat,Sun) talking to people. It wore me out though, most people didn't care or were to hungover to pretend to care. Someone asked me who Gordon Brown was...
And the firetower wasnt that hard mostly we made soup and coffee all night and one person would go up the tower for 2 hours then be at the bottom of the tower for 2 hours . no one threw anything at us in fact it was too quite, I really like working towers :0)
