ok basically, i have got my gf to backcomb my hair about 3 or 4 times now and about a day or two afterwards they just work themselves loose and fall out. i have sort of half given up and have just left them now. I am using imperial leather soap to wash them because i am poor and cant afford real dreadsoap. Will they actually just lock themselves after a while? they have been like this for about a month or two now and i have a few but they dont really seem to be doing very well. any advice you could give me would be brilliant. oh yeah also, i havnt washed them for ages because i was scared of them falling out. Is iot better for me to keep washing them with this normal bar of soap or for me just to leave them. I have been spraying them with saltwater spray as well. Ok i just looked and it is called wrights original soap. dunno if that helps lol. Jack
no worries... they'll form on their own in time... just let em fall out, because they'll reform naturally. Keep em clean fo sho. No need for expensive "dreadlock" soap... anything with all natural ingredients will be fine. Keep em separated if you prefer a more uniform look (some jus like to let em go which is cool too, whatever your preference). Just be patient and you'll get there...
I've had that problem with the back of my head. So what I did... wash them about every three days with the 'Deep Cleaning Concoction' of baking soda n' salt that's posted elsewhere on the site. Usually by day three I can see how my hairs group together and I will make a small dready or two (really small) with a comb that have some good solid knotting. Then leave them to nature for a few days, then wash again and let the hair shift to where it wants to be. Also, as has been said around these parts before, clean hair knots better. It takes a long time but as you get enough small dreadies over weeks you can start to marry them together or twist and roll them to slowly absorb loose hair. Infact, I'm still going through this process and have much loose hair in the back but it's coming along nicely.
ah ha i see. cheers for the advice. I will make some of that deep cleaning stuff and just let em go wild me thinks. I noticed somewhere that sells dr bronners soap cheap recently so when i get paid i think ill grab some of that but untill then, im thinking natural is the way to go. Shall i post a pic of myself to show what is actually going on?
backcombing too much isn't good for your dreads. after backcombing, it's really normal to have a bunch of dreads fall out and they reform on their own. repeating the backcombing process can hinder their ability to form on their own because you keep breaking and interfering with your hair's natural dreadiness. let 'em run wild!
ok i will leave em and keep em clean, but i swear it doesnt even look like a have dreads lol it just looks like my hairs a complete mess lol
