He was never what I'd call my "cuppa tea" really......mind you, I dig some classical stuff like Listz of course, but that's about it. The spookiest thing is that I'm in Italy for work at the moment and RAI TV yesterday said he was hospitalized in 'stable' conditions! It's always sad whenever an artist passes away. RIP LP.
It's very sad that we've lost such an operattic legend. He will be sorely missed. You may not have been in to opera at all, but he was appreciated by most.
The musical literature for a tenor is the most varied of all in any language and the tenor writing always covers the widest range of emotions. Enjoyed sharing the journey with him.
