So I heard that RZ's remake of the classical Romero zombie flick was a flop...anyone know more?

i didn't like it at all. I liked the mystery to Michael but this movie removed all of that. It's nature v. nurture because in the original, Michael was evil just because. Nothing in the world would have been able to fix him, it was just his nature. In this 'reimagining' it was nurture. His family/home life wasn't great. His family seemed kind of white trash. People bullied him at school. He was made into an evil killer.

The mystery to Michael was what I liked about Halloween. That he came from a good family and lived in safe burbia but that still didn't save him.

Also, I'm 5'2. The original Michael was like what 5'10, yet he was still really scary. In RZ's in order to compensate for the villain's un-scaryness they made him 7 foot tall and I didn't like that either. One person on the nightmare on elm street forums said that RZ made Michael into a rock star (not in the positive sense) and I agree.

The only thing that made me pleased was Brad Dorif (Chucky) and Micky Dolenz but even these two men couldn't have saved this movie from being a real drag.

i'm divided on the re-make of the first halloween movie.
in someways it was better then carpenter and hill first version, in othe ways zombies' version was worst.
donald pleasence or, malcolm mcdowell as doctor loomis? two great british actors! i just did not think, that mcdowell was able to pull off the role of dr. loomis no where near as well as pleasence did.
if you need a british actor to portray dr. loomis; i would have picked jeremy irons for that role, but, hey, i was not the director for that re-make. it was zombie's baby to run with.

the only person who shined in that movie was sheri moon. she did one hell of a great job portraying michael's mother in the movie!

over all though, i think i like the 1978 version of halloween better.

as a side note. i know george romero is directing a new zombie movie, which has the working title of "island of the dead." i don't know when it will hit the theaters.
