I certainly hope that this doesn't grosse you out- but I have a liver disease [HepC] which has numbered my days and I have been giving it an awful lot of thought lately. I always thought that cremation was the way to go but you just use up way too much energy and resources going that way. So- I thought that having a funeral like Nate [in six Feet Under] did is definetly the way I would like things done. In case you are not familiar with that episode, Nate was buried in a forest just wrapped in a shroud after his body parts were harvested and he wasn't embalmed. The only marker was a flat piece of stone with his name on it. That is the way that I would like to be buried but the only marker that I want would be a tree. --had to get this off my chest: By the way, I am not looking for sympathy because I believe that when your time comes it just comes. It is what you are going to do with your remains that matters. Unfortunatley because of the HepC virus I don't believe that I can have any body parts harvested. So I would really like to have my remains returned to the earth. PS: I still should be around for quite a while-
not quite sure what the legalities of burying an unembalmed body .....guess it varies from state to state .......i used to dig graves ..about 30 a year ..all by hand because it was a more dignified way of doing it .....but i too would someday like to be buried in my natural state under a tree
Don't give up so quick, and don't let the doctors scare you. Many, many people that carry the Hep C virus never suffer any effect from it at all. The important thing is to keep your liver healthy and strong so the virus can't easily attack it. No alcohol, no street drugs, and do research on any prescription medications you're given. Don't be afraid to tell the doc "No, I shouldn't take that, give me something else". Above all, information is your best tool, read and read case studies and stories from the patients themselves, and glean them for tips. Learn what substances stress the liver, and learn to avoid them. The interferon/ribovirin treatment is horrible. They try to kill the virus without killing you, and you get pretty close before its over. The good news, if you're determined to try it, is that some of the companies will provide the drugs free if your income is low enough ("Peg-assist" is one of the programs). Talk to your doctor about it, then decide. Remember that you may go through all that nastiness and end up with no improvement. Such is life. If your doctor is all gloom and doom, hurry away to find a new doctor until you find one that's upbeat. Makes all the difference in the world. As to my burial, I'm planning on cremation and scattering. I don't want there to be a grave or a place for my survivors to guilt-trip themselves into going, I don't want them to even know exactly where I was scattered, just "in the mountains" or "at sea" is enough. (and all of that is much cheaper than a standard burial). They get a death certificate and a certificate proving I was scattered, that's all. But right now, hang in there. As the old guy in the cart in Monty Python's Holy Grail kept yelling, "I"M NOT DEAD YET!!!" PS - Talk to your doctor about organ donation. There may be organs that can be donated to someone who already has the virus but also needs a lung or a kidney, for instance.
My sister did the interferon 3 yrs ago and she is now Hep-C free.. she did not have much discomfort only lost a little hair, which has grown back. I also have Hep-C, doesnt everyone.. my uncle died from it.. he never did a drug in his life.. but hey somethin' is gonna take you over to the otherside..someday sh
420 ....no need to take the fatalistic look at the Hep-C...I tested positive 2 years ago...and the initial shock floored me at first as well...but with a little research and asking of questions...I have found out Hep-C is more common than the common cold as gaston said...all I have heard from people who have undergone the treatment...it is far worse than the virus..in fact my doctor has recommended that I forego the treatment ......until there is a need for it....I have quarterly liver ultra-sounds done and blood work.....so as long as you monitor how it is affecting you...there really isn't a need to worry....I fully understand the initial shock though as far as your burial desires.....every state is different..but natural burials are for the most part illegal...since it cuts out the middle man money grabber...and of course the governmental control of ground water issues...even though we are reduced to a truely natural state I would suggest....with your current news....I would disspell the planning of a burial ritual...and start a celebration of life ritual......trust me...it's much more rewarding any questions you might have..feel free to pm me...I'll hook ya up with somes sites to ease your mind peace

I have often wondered why corpses could not be turned into blood & bone fertilizer, this way it is an asset not a liability. Seriously it is what I would like.
it would be nice if local areas had a spot where the bodies were placed and thus vultures would collect there and quickly gobble up the remains quick and simple recycling, the way nature intended
I have thought of this very thing myself. I wondered if I could be buried in a zoroastrian burial place - I wonder if they have these in the states (they leave the bodies in a place where vultures can come to consume them) another alternative is burial at sea - still goes back to nature.
My house is surrounded by Vultures (guess they're just waitin' for me to kick off!) So it would be natural if I die before I get kicked out of this place (owner in foreclosure...) to let the vultures have a nice meal... I love watching them soar on the updrafts and glide for miles and gather into a spiral circling ever higher to the heavens... (they can give my soul a boost up to there!)
its racism that prevents this from happening here in the states. many people would not want to eat plants nutritionally benefitted from the remains of black people
