Ever since my miscarriage on August 22nd I can't sleep! I keep haiving nightmares, and waking up and not being able to go back to sleep.
I already have to sleep with the light on and its not helping. Of course sleeping with the light off is about ten times worse...Any suggestions on how to make this all stop?

The fact you can't sleep is probably because you need to relax. Before bed, soak in a bath with lavender oil and thyme. Light some lavender candles or joss sticks and have these with you in the bathroom. When you've finished your bath spend about 10 minutes relaxing, either reading a book, or knitting, or crocheting, or doing something quiet you enjoy. Place a candle next to your bed and invest in a night light that plugs into an electricty socket. keep the curtains open , and if you can afford to, fitting a dimmer plate means you can set a relaxing light. Blow out the candle when you feel ready and lie flat on your back, plams raised. This is the dead man position. Take a deep breath and relax your feet, release, and repeat until you've got to your head. Think of good thoughts, and if you keep thinking horrible ones, relight the candle and visualise the flame as the bad thoughts. Blow out the candle. Hopefully you should be able to sleep through, and if you wake up, try the dead man posture again. Hope this helps, x

I get insomnia occasionally. And this might not help you, but I found out from a friend prescription seruquel will put you right out. Luckily my brother is subscribed it. I took it and finally slept after 3 days of being up.

Meditation and relaxation techniques help, but so do prescription drugs!!

im not big on prescription drugs, i just stopped vicodin for my d n c surgery, so im weened from that, and i dont like the fact that i would be dependant on a sleep aid to sleep, its not very comforting.

I just needed it that once. I get insomnia maybe once or twice every two years so it helped as a one time thing.

Now if you have an ongoing problem I would not recommend it.
But if I was having horrible problems with sleeping I don't think the idea of an aid would bother me. You gotta get your rest. Meditations more healthy but after 4 hours of trying it, still lying in bed trying to sleep, thats when I pull out the pills.

It's sad you had a miscarriage, and myself never being pregnant could not fully understand on an emotional level your predicament, but somehow you have to make peace with the experience and move on. A guy who wrote a good spirituality book, Seat of the Soul, explained it in an interview this way. (can't quote exactly but you'll get the gist) But basically If a baby is aborted or miscarried it means the plans that child had in this life were changed and that child must go back (to heaven) to be... reassigned. In other words, that child is on a path and the path changed, NO fault to you. These are just things that are beyond our control.

It sounds like you may need to make peace with this passing child before you move on. And I wish you the best of luck with that

there are also some herbal sleeping pills out there that have valerian in them and i find them quite effective... they mak eyou drowsy just for an hour or two but thats enough time to fall asleep (they wont keep you asleep, just let you reach sleeping state much easier)

i get insomnia alll the time. I'm terrible with this.
I usually cure it by soaking in a bath before bed or sipping some hot tea with NO sugar.
Some flowery incense helps me too. Try some light yoga as well, you know, just some gentle stretches, that's always helped me tons.

I would try meditating and smoking/eating ganja. This helps me when I'm stressed out and can't sleep. I hope you start catching zzzzs so that you can heal.

    I sorry to hear that.
Also, I wish I had some magical words to help you through this terrible time, but I don't.
I just wanted to pass on my condolences.
My wife had two of them, and my mom had three.
    It isn't all that uncommon.

When I went through a tramatic experience I had to sleep with the TV on. It helped a lot with the noise. Try it and see if it helps. I had to sleep with it on up until about 2 weeks ago. It really did help especially with the bad dreams
