Does anyone else who is familiar with both the Doors' and Incubus' music see a lot of similarities and correlations between the two. Not just music style, but the way both Jim and Brandon Boyd write, the themes and attitude of their music, the range of songs they put out and their synthesis of many different styles and genres of music. Even Incubus' guitarist Mike Einziger reminds me of Robby Krieger (see below). Maybe it just because I'm a huge fan of both groups that I feel like this but I'd like to see what other people think. And before any Doors' fans get all riled up I am NOT putting Incubus on the same level as them, just to set the record staright. So please don't write in telling me I don't know what I'm talking about and bashing either group. Although its an open forum so say what you want, I'll just ignore those comments. Robby Krieger Mike Einziger
I'd say start with the Make Yourself Album. That's probably their most popular and easiest to see what I'm talking about. Specifically The Warmth and the title track
I dig incubus a lot, but I don't really think they are even close, even in style. Mike is a fine guitarist, but doesn't have the same phrasing or tone as Robby. Besides that, incubus writing while, I dunno... "atmospheric" it's still full of modern rock cliches. Not that the music is cliche, because like I said I really like incubus. It's just the depth, the personification, the mystery of the doors isn't there. Incubus are very modern rock, the doors are forever blues.
