trey's band isn't nearly as good as phish, that being said i know Trey's drummer, Russ Lawton. Or atleast he was the drummer up untill recently, took drum lessons from him for a while and dated his daughter =D.
Hahaha...yeah I was at a cd store called the exchange and one of the kids who worked there said he never listened to Phish but a lot of Trey!!! I said WHAT??? Why not..and he told me that he was scared to because of how good they were and he didn't know where to start. He asked me what cd to start with (Hardest decision in my life) I ended up telling him junta.
Well I obviously most would pick Phish...but I was curious to see if there was any Trey fans. I don't think Trey is a lost cause without Phish, he has some good songs.
You need a 'Draw' button. Although, imo, musically and technically Phish rules the roost, there are times during some TAB jams that I think 'Man, it just does not get better than this!'. It may be because it is a fresh start for Trey, so to speak, and he seems to play with a renewed sense of imspiration that I had not heard from him in awhile, but some of his solos for TAB are some of his best. But if I HAD to choose, nothing tops 94-98 (and 99NYE) Phish for me. cheers, nnJ
Maybe not quite primey now, just different. He just got a little bored with Phish there at the end, and found recreationals to be more fun. But his high points in TAB are just as hot as his early 90's Phish days. Just fewer and farther between. He's goin from 'prime' to 'properly aged'. nnJ
trey has laid down some amazing shit in his solo career. one of the most epic shows in Trey's career was Bonnaroo 02....what a fucking show...the 40+minute "Night Speaks" is insane....the "alive again" has some of the most furious trey ever!! trey solo is awesome...but Phish is trey and 3 other monsters of music....not just his band, they all are creative forces not to be reckoned with....
OK.. I finally voted. Trey. They are such a close tie for me, the vote went to the underdog. Honestly, as long as Trey keeps touring I don't care who it was with. I am almost worried a Phish reunion will be so hyped up it will be impossible to live up to it. sappy story=--> I saw Trey here in town at the HOB last October. It was the first time I had seen him since Oysterhead and then NYE 99 before that. At the HOB we were close enough to hit him with a party popper. WHAT a thrill compared to the massive events the Phish shows had become. When he hit the first tune up note on his guitar and that TONE ran thru my body, I felt a warmth, happiness and joy usually reserved only for love and mainline drugs. I had been on a big Phish break up until then, a sort of recalulating of one's life, and that note, that tone, that childish innocence in his smile made me remember it all, and made me realize it was ALL worthwhile and I am glad I went thru every bit of it. Hell AND high water! peace out, nnJ
i would never allow hype to ruin a Phish tour....i don't like calling it a reunion tour, i feel like its them just going on tour again....they are too good for hype. i really enjoyed the 03-04 era...awesome evolution in sound. many were upset that it wasn't the same thing as before, but screw them, thats not what the musics about. and by 04 i was so in love with trey's muddy sound. i just would have enjoyed a little bit more reverb on the guitar like the old days. put a little air around that tone....
Trey is weak by himself.... Mostly because he thinks he is god...... Phish was great until Trey first began to think he was god. Trey is NOT god however so you see how this poses a problem. I miss Phish really bad
