The first four Funkadelic albums are some of the greatest pieces of music you will ever find. When they started to melt into Parliament is when they became less awesome. I still enjoy a good One Nation or Flashlight. Especially if I'm drunk.
Funkadelic are amazing. Eddie Hazel has got to be one of the best guitar players imo. Maggot Brain and Super Stupid are just mind blowing.
Funkadelic...where to begin I love Funkadelic, Maggot Brain, Cosmic Slop, Let's Take It To The Stage and Free Your Mind... They are simply genius. I like Parliament a whole as well but I didn't like it when Funkadelic went all funk, it's as a rock band that I love them.
I don't really agree that they 'melted' into Parliament. They've always been Parliament from the start, (well, the Parliments). I mean, it's all the same band really. Just the more rock stuff was put out under the Funkadelic moniker, whereas the more mainstream, funky/soul stuff was Parliament. I think that's why they ended up just reverting to Parliament/Funkadelic or P-Funk. It's less confusing. Also, they used to tour with a set-list made up of both types of sound, so it makes sense.
Funkadelic put the FUNK back into r'n'b and club music.....something the CRAPPY disco-duck bands of the early 80s had removed!! LONG LIVE TRUe FUNKY MUSIC!!
