My brother's been hinting for a while that he wanted a handknit cabled sweater, so in January I ordered a bunch of yarn to knit him one, with the intention of finishing it long before the summer for his birthday (which is in about a week)... Naturally it didn't get finished until today - but nonetheless it's done!

    Here it is: [IMG] [IMG]

It's a Lionbrand free pattern (here) - the only thing I changed was the collar. (I knit up a crew instead of a turtleneck.)

The only thing, though, is that the pattern calls for 10 skeins of yarn for his size, and I only used up almost 6. So I don't know where the other 4 are supposed to go.

But oh well, it nonetheless turned out alright, I think.

Thanks - it took forever to do... it'll be a while before I start another sweater. The yarn is Lionbrand Wool Ease Thick'n'Quick - 86% acrylic, 10% wool, 4% rayon. It's good and thick (hence the name) so it's a bit less tedious to knit up the big projects.

It's gorgeous! I like your modification for the neck much better than the turtleneck. Your brother is one lucky guy!

    lol it certainly is cozy...

I had knit my husband 2 sweaters last year, and he thought that he wasn't very much into cables, so they were just flat plain sweaters. But once I had this one done up for my brother, he ended up wearing it for two hours before I wrestled it off of him! [IMG] So, now, I suppose the next knit thing I have to make for my husband is this sweater.....

lol, more like stress management! :D I had been working on that sweater for months, I came close several times to quitting!

I do the occasional sweater or afghan... it's a lot of work. I prefer smaller projects in all.
