This is a little rant I have about not being able to take ritalin, although I am probably going to take it anyways. My new doc advised me not to take it, but I can't concentrate at all! My attention span is shorter than the life span of a fruit fly. I can't do anything, even the things I enjoy like reading this forum and reading books that I like, let alone study. I have no motivation and don't know what to do because nothing seems interesting or has any appeal whatsoever. I hate ADHD!!!!

    Peace and love

I have it and the medicine does not help very much. If anything its a bandaid. Sure you can focus and will fell motivated but you build a tollerance very fast and lose alot of you personality.

Hmmm , Im the most mega ADD person ever.

Ive never taken Ritalin or any ( legal:)) drugs.

Read books on the subject , get your diet right.( lots of vitamins ,omega fish oils , minerals , water , and avoid pastry and asturated fatty stuff when u need to concentrate.
    Get your study skills right.
And try and veer towards what u enjoy- one thing , or maybe several.
I'll send you a link to some stuff if u want ( its only for the ADD Secret Society members ;))

I found non ADD people work then exercise.
I find exercise at the start of the day helps - ideally in a green environment etc.
Maybe meditation , tai chi etc etc
Theres lots of things to consider - do u learn visually , or through examples and "feel" or through hearing things etc.

The most successful people ever were all ADD people - da Vinci , Einstein , Edison
Hitler ( ok forget that one).
Youve got to think how u can work in a non ADD dominated world.
The ADD brain is vastly superior in many ways , its just we get bored as fuck with boring ways of doing stuff.
    Simple!

I'm convinced that no matter what you may be facing, no matter what's going on, you can still have an awesome life. Even if you have the attention span of a fruit fly. Even if ________________ (fill in the blank). Take the Ritalin, or hey, don't. Which ever makes you feel the best is the better option. Maybe you can even apply this philosophy to your own life, who knows? (Reread previous sentence for maximum philosophical effect....) :)

There is no such thing as ADD/ADHD. Show me some proof that it is anything more than a name concocted by the pharmaceutical companies and thrown on kids who display certain traits the establishment and public school system finds "unacceptable," and maybe I'll consider it. I was put on Ritalin as a kid, when I was only in kindergarten, and was on it until about 7th grade. I stopped taking it when I realized how bad it was making me feel. No child should be placed on such powerful stimulant drugs, which can cause all kinds of fatal side effects, including heart problems. It also predisposes them to use drugs when they are older, since it opens the same neural pathways in the brain as any psychoactive drug. Children who are put on these drugs are not put on them out of the child's best interests, but out of the establishment and pharmaceutical companies' best interests. This system does not like intelligent children, who are vibrant and ask lots of questions. It's the children who display leadership qualities that are placed on these drugs, which basically chemically lobotomize the child, making them zombies. If this isn't child abuse, then I don't know what is.

If a child does display hyperactivity or has a short attention span, there are likely reasons for it, including diet. Diets high in refined sugars and artificial colors can make children display the same characteristics as so-called "ADD/ADHD." Drugs are not needed, but the pharmaceutical cartels and their lackeys (doctors) are never interested in a cause. They are only looking at pushing drugs on people so they can profit at that child's expense. This is how big-pharma works. Big-pharma does not care about you or me, nor has it ever. It's all about one thing, and that's M-O-N-E-Y!

It's really sad that good parenting has taken a backseat to drugging children with dangerous stimulant drugs.

If you are having trouble concentrating, then look at your diet first and foremost. Are you consuming a lot of caffeine, artificial or refined sugars, or artificial colors? There are supplements you can also take, such as omega-3 fish oil. It's been said that fish oil works even better than the stimulant drugs, and they are a lot safer, more affordable, and have no unpleasant side effects. Also make sure you get enough sleep and try exercising when you have the time.

You are well-advised to stay away from the pharmaceuticals. They are garbage and very dangerous to boot.

It's funny you say that, Pressed Rat, because I was told when I was younger that I could have had ADD. When I come to think of it, I also remember being extremely hyperactive and unable to concentrate on ANYTHING at all. Lucky for me though, my mom's a naturopathic doctor and has always been against the medical industry, so a quick change in my diet did the trick like magic, as soon as she realized that I was 'acting out' (though I probably wasn't even 8 years old). I'm so thankful that I was never put on any sort of medication for it, and my parents could see through the corporate lies.

Still, it's pretty crazy just how much the industry makes off of their ADD/ADHD bullshit, and how widely-accepted it still is today. Fuck them, I say. Fuck 'em all.

Well if I'm remembering from your other post you have bipolar disorder correct? Ritalin is a very powerful stimulant that works pretty much exactly like cocaine. Both Ritalin and coke increase dopamine levels in your brain. They do this by blocking a dopamine transporter protein responsible for the reuptake of dopamine at the synapse. I don't know for a fact about ritalin, but I know that cocaine wreaked havoc on my moods and sent me into a manic frenzy and ritalin isn't that different. I would trust your doc on this one.

I have ADHD also. I was put on adderall xr in 3rd grade and now im a senior. When i started taking it i took 5mg then 15mg then 25mg and now im taking 50mg. Once you've been taking the same dosage for a long time you grow immune to it and it doesnt work as well so then you have to go and get a higher dosage. Also every 3 months you have to make an appointment with your doctor so they can observe you and see how its wroking for you but i think that might depend on what doctor you have. It helps me so much, i concentrate a lot more and actually understand whats going on when my teachers are talking about something that i normally wouldnt know about. My moms doctor told her that she shouldnt take it but then she went to another doctor and found out that she really did have ADHD from tests they gave her and now shes been taking it for i think like 12 years. My whole family takes it and it helps them a lot, they're happier and there always wanting to do something besides sit around and do nothing. Maybe you should get other doctors opinions and see what they say about it because i know how hard it is to not have medicine when you know you have ADHD.

When you have a PHD in pyschiatry, then I might listen to you. Until then, stop insulting people who have actual problems besides your issues of arragance concerning knowing EVERTYTHING about a disorder that does exist (except in your world).

Sorry, but pressed rat is definitely right on that one. There are some (more rare) cases of ADD/ADHD that are irreversible, but most of the time, it's as simple as consuming less sugar and getting more fatty acids (especially omega-3's).

Stop playing the role of the victim. The only reason you're getting angry is because I am touching on something that is true, and it takes away from the pity you like to place on yourself. You don't need a PhD in psychiatry to have common sense or think for yourself. One of the reasons this country is over-drugged on this toxic sludge is because people place too much trust and blind faith in people who have a PhD next to their name, as if they are somehow all-knowing because they were indoctrinated at some university whose teachings are based on skewed information put out by big-pharma. Do some research and get some facts of your own before reading me the riot act. You are acting awfully defensive and there must be a reason for it.

I have ADHD that is treated with medication. I am not a victim of my disorder. I know that I need to take medication to stay on top of school. Maybe diet changes work for some, but it doesn't help me. How does that make me a victim?

    Peace and love
