Check out Barefoot Manner! These guys are based out of Raliegh NC and kick ass. They are a four peice including mandolin, bass, banjo, and drums mainly. Though they do through in some keys and an acoustic in the mix, oh and how can I forgot the washboard! They are listed on the archives if you would like to download some shows.

    Neither is Manner.
I think what we'll see is a rise of a grassy side and a livetronica side in multiple bands.
but for the bands that are out there the closest one in spirit is New Monsoon.

There both in the Jam band genre. Newgrass is included in that.

Jam is actually not considered a genre of music. Genres are based on the instrumentation of the band.

And how is Manner not in the same as Cheese?

lol, whatever, yea cheese is more country/grass, they are still a jamband. You'll notice they all cross over into each others' territory. I find TLG to be like a younger amateur phish. Keep in mind they haven't been together long, and are younger than cheese. Which is why I say they are the next big thing, but whatever, they're big in the domain I call my mind.

And that's all that matters. I saw TLG along with LOS in 2004 @ Haymaker. I like TLG and you are right they are def. a young version or style of phish. Cheese's latest stuff was not really all that grassy in my opinion.

I just know Barefoot Manner has revamped there line-up and style. They have a new album coming out in a month or so, not to mention that have there own festival!

Even if you have listened to Manner in the past, give them another listen. They are a four piece now and there new bass player is phenomenal, as are the other guys.

To each their own. Personally I feel that Livetronica / rave stuff is going to be the death of the Jam band scene (or could be). The rave scene has brought in a bunch of people who aren't hippies into our scene. Sideways visors, nasty drugs, ghetto attitudes...the kinda stuff that will bring a festival down.

    note:
I think everyone should listen to whatever they enjoy. I try not to make any judgements on what other peple listen to.

I totally agree with you on that-it has really affected the scene in the last couple years

Personally festivals like Camp Bisco, Emerge N See, RE: Generation, and Shambala do alot more for me than jamband fests. Bands like Hallucinogen in dub are doing shit beyond anything i have ever heard.

well, now, I got my head taken off by STS9 right after Sam Bush had rearranged it at a fest.
I'm not a great fan of livetronica and it's relatives as a genre, but I like certain projects: Bassnectar, EOTO. Pnema Trio is touch and go, some nights I meet the groove and others it's like musak.

as for the kids in the rave scene, the Colorado kids are pretty cool, and kynd in a family way. They keep the old hippies hydrated and really put a lot of heart energy into the paintings (I only go if I can paint).
I loved X. It was legal when I was in HS and I was at Ground Zero for it, North Central Texas. We had our own versions of raves, before the whole concept gelled.
Which of course was an 80s version of the Acid Test.

Any scene has crappy individuals who have a lot to learn.

I dont know if i would call it a "rave" scene. Raves are loaded with shitty techno and excstacy. I think theres just as much of a psychedelic scene if not more.

whatever, I'm using the word used HERE. "Dance Party" got worked into every happenings' name, so by default, "ravekids" and rave.

It's actually illegal to have a "rave," so I think the name is flipping the bird to Denver police.

Its all about pushing the boundaries and making fresh and innovative music. Thats what the dead did, thats what phsh did, and thats what bands like sts9 are doing. STS9 has completly blown me away. Their music is like nothing else. Even though its electronic it has such a natural and organic vibe. I cant get enough of it! I still havn't warmed up to dj's and I cant find a way to like bisco, but bands like sts9, JFJO, lotus, pnuma even - are the bands in this scene pushing the envelope, tapping into something new. What ive noticed though is recently the bands ive been listing to are either bands like sts9 in the electronic realm or HBRSB in the bluegrass/jam area. Those are the bands of the future in this scene. WIth all of these young bands right now that have all of these influences - im exited to see what going to come out in the future. SCI kindof fathered this mix of bluegrass and trance - and I anticipate a flow of great music to emerge in this scene. This isn't a lull - this is a new begining, with amazing bands like sts9 and jfjo (boy am i glad for abreviantions) leading a revolution.

Yeah, even bands like SCI, Barefoot Manner, Keller, and many others who were rooted in other forms od music have started getting into a electronic vibe.

sorry to go off this topic but i just wanted to say that a lot of the major cheese fans, like my sister and brother in law, are going to Railroad Earth. I dont really think that there is going to be one band that fills the void of cheese because there is not enough time to establish one band, they all said that this break up was only temporary and they intend to start touring again in 2 years(probly with a new name seeing as billy was one of the founding members of the band).

thanks for getting back ON topic, Spurlock!
RRE, Buttered are both options for the people who were at Cheese for BG vibes.

And EOTO and ZIlla for the techno.

    Or Panagea.
