Recently I ordered a syringe full of psilocybe cubensis B+ spores (very excited!!!) and I'm posting to ask where everyone gets their Vermiculite and Brown Rice Flour? I'd like to order as little online as possible since I live with my mom. I'm sure I can find it in stores but honestly I just don't know where to look, especially for Vermiculite. I've heard that BRF can be found in Health stores but the only one I know of around here is GNC and they just sell vitamins and stuff.

    Maybe at regular grocery stores?

Well I went to wal-mart, shop rite, a few nurseries (which were all closed), and home depot and the only thing I have to show for it is Brown Rice Flour. I found jars but they weren't wide-mouth or tapered. I didn't think Vermiculite would be that hard to find either, but I was wrong. I still have a few places to go around here but things aren't looking good.

Try Lowe's or Ace Hardware or ask the people in Home Depot for the vermiculite. It's common in a lot of potting soils, they shouldn't ask too many questions. Any decent grocery store should have wide-mouth jars.

I used to get verm at Lowe's then they quit stocking it, try looking up any farm supply type stores around you, I lucked out and found one near me and got an obnoxiously LARGE bag of verm for like 12 bucks...otherwise if worse comes to worse research some other shroom teks using wild birdseed ect.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Did Lowe's stop selling Vermiculite at all it's stores, or just that one? Do places really stop selling it because they're under pressure that people might grow shrooms with it? How obnoxious.

I found a few jars at wal-mart, but there were none anywhere around them, just pint wide-mouth jars, normal jars, and half-pint normal jars. It was disappointing. Shop Rite didn't have them either. I asked the guy at Home Depot and he didn't even know what Vermiculite was, looked at me weird, and pointed me in the other direction obviously just trying to get me to go away. Dick.

you can use that syringe for making birdseed or rye spawn in normal jars without verm, the PF tek is only one of many ways to grow your shroomies. If you grow legit food mushies you can usualy blow your mom's mind and ordering crap will be no prob, I dont live with my mom any more but back when I did she thought my shitakes were so cool she bought me a laminar flow hood.

Yeah, flour is sort of a waste of time compared to what you can get compared to grains with less effort but slightly more difficulty. However, if you are intent on following the pf tek, it doesn't really matter what kind of flour you use as long as it is a whole grain flour. Whole grain wheat flour, which is usually cheaper and more common than brown rice flour, is a suitable substitute.

For your first attempt, I recommend finding a good casing tek on shroomery.org and just following it using whole grains as your substrate. Casings aren't even that hard and would be more convenient, especially if you are trying to hide it from your parents, because then everything is just one big mass. Following the pf tek involves a bunch of individual cakes that will require attendance at different times and the use of perlite to humidify everything, plus you must mist and fan your terrarium regularly. However, you can just case the bottom of a plastic tub and maintain optimal conditions with very little maintenance if you get things right: i.e. the placement of the holes in the tub, the saturation and the depth of the casing, etc. If you're smart about it, a little bit of research will go a long way, and you'll get results that you probably wouldn't expect with relatively little effort.
