Have you ever seen an animal being abused. A girl down the strret has thsi puppy, and one tiem while walking down the street, she would swing the leash forward then as the puppy is quickly dragged in front of her, she would snap it back and the dog would do a backflip. I dont know why I didnt step in. (probably cause Ive had run ins with her dad.) If you have, did you, and what did you do?
Our bunny who died today was abused by pure neglect. She was so desperately in need of medical care, shed been left that way for, its guessed, around 7 years. We took her in and kept her on meds for a year, but today she went Ive seen WAY too many creatures being abused. Often, all i can do is send a pathetic email to someone. It never does any good. Ive tried direct action, protests, speaking directly with owners, all that stuff, and it just gets fired back at me often causing immense grief As a vegan and member of several animal groups i see many videos of animal abuse too, several times a week, when informed about news or current issues or whatever so i can take action. And its just horrendous. I still cry, and ive been part of these groups for years now Sorry to hear about the pup
there are welfare places you can phone, i phoned once about a horse who was being beaten by his owner and the owner didnt give a crap about him at all, the horse was taken away from him.
i work at the humane society and the other day a guy came in for community service. he was taunting an abused, aggressive pit bull. he didn't know anyone was watching. all they could do was kick him out. other than that, i've never actually witnessed any animal abuse besides neglect.
I once saw someone get a rat buy its tail, swing it really fast and then use the rat as a pin cushion. Poor rat died due to a rupture in his internal organs. I hate animal cruelty. I didn't wish to step in as I saw this because, I didn't want fisty cuffs with the owner. I felt angry though.
I am not a huge animal lover. Especially indoors as pets. Animals belong outdoors with proper care and shelter. There would be a lot less abuse of animals and humans if when it was proven that the actions were deliberate the same actions were dealt right back at the offender. It's sad but true, some people just need to get a hobby. It builds self esteem. If that doesn't work put a leash on them and jerk them around for a while.
I have to disagree. I see where youre coming from, but this isnt true of some "pet" animals. Some have been intensively bred for so long, theyre so "domesticated" that a life outside is actually a lot less enjoyable for them and most dangerous. Our bunnies are kept indoors. We treat them like babies. This is because we know their natures...right from the moment we brought them home they were all the same...very very dependant and attatched to us. One of our girls is a dwarf bright white bunny, who would obviously just be snatched up by predators outdoors in a run or whatever Also rabbits left outdoors are usually just forgotten about, no matter how well-meaning an "owner" can start out. Same goes for other animals. Whats best for them is very often to be made part of the family, which means living indoors Even in a hutch outside our rabbits would be prone to fox attacks. Even if a fox just sits outsde the pen, it can give bunnies a heart attack which will kill them, as theyre so fragile I know you just meant you personally wouldnt like to keep "pets", but i just thought id clarify for everyone else that sometimes this is for the best
Natureboy, she's probably just modeling behavior she's seen members of her family do. Next time just casually walk up to her and mention that the puppy would respond better to her if it understood exactly what she wanted from it, and perhaps she should attend an obedience class with her puppy. Check around and find out when they are held. Maybe she'll take the hint.
You have a duty to rescue the animal or cause it to be rescued by the appropriate agency, such as SPCA or your municipal animal control agency. In my area (Alberta, Canada) there's Animal Rescue Foundation, which has a website which advertises animals available for adoption. There's also SPCA and Calgary Humane Society. If you have rescued an animal and need to turn it over, try to get information on what the probability is that the animal will be adopted rather than killed. I use the term 'killed', not 'put down' or 'put to sleep'. In some cases you may want to adopt the animal yourself, but you have to consider the impact this will have on pets you already own, as well as the suitability of the animal to your own situation. Most people renting apartments have landlords that don't allow large pets. If the animal is exotic (not a cat or dog), that can be a problem in an urban environment. You may not have room for an alligator, a tiger, or a moray eel. Organizations such as SPCA or PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) may be able to help you with adoption or rescue issues.
