i was looking at various odor-combating devices and products, and have come across one i never would have thought of using, but which i'd been in contact with before: an automatic aerosol dispenser.

these things are timed to spray an aerosol product into the air every 15 minutes for about a month per can, and they make ozium cans which fit the devices.

they aren't expensive and seem like they might be a great alternative to filters, at least short-term.

does anybody have any experience with these? in my experience ozium works miracles when it comes to eliminating the smell of smoked cannabis, but as i have no experience with growing i have no way of knowing if it effectively eliminates the smell of living cannabis.

i know it wouldnt be stupid to get this product, and its not very expensive (each can lasts a month and a dispenser with a 12pk of cans would be less than a hundred bucks - it would actually be a smaller investment than two carbon filters, though it would require replacement cartridges and cost more in the long-term)

i think this, coupled with the diy carbon scrubbers made from the net pots i saw linked in another thread could adequately keep an apartment smell free, but i'm also thinking that ozium is a good enough product it may be effective even without the air filters.

i'd appreciate any feedback anyone may have...

Carbon scrubbers are the shit,Idk why people are always tring to find ways around them. NOTHING works as well, you need to move the air around anyway, so why not put one in the chain somewhere. You said yourself that they are cheaper then ozium, why fuck around?

they are cheaper only in the long run. far bigger investment in the short-term, though.

i'm a very low-income individual, but rather indulgent. i spend too much on booze, pot, and cigars. i'm trying to spend less on all of them, and i'm trying to become self-sufficient (and nothing more) in the cannabis department.

its not so much that i'm looking to get out of using carbon scrubbers, its that i'm trying to avoid the initial cost (which is a burden to me...i work part time and make less than 10 dollars an hour) evenually, of course, i would desire to add carbon scrubbers to the set up. but if i can avoid the expense, at least initially, it would be a good thing for my situation.

but ozium is amazing in its effectiveness at destroying the faintest trace of pot smoke in a room you smoked in, and i figured it may very well be as effective at destroying the odor of growing cannabis, especially when its used every fifteen minutes.

carbon scrubbers may work very well, but then ozium may also work very well. its a good product.

    thats why i asked.

have you TRIED ozium? or anything else? i'm a complete newby and simply looking for guidance in this particular area. i've got my light, i've got hashberry seeds, i've got the basic plans for my grow tent, and i'm considering odor and air circulation now.

any constructive input apart from "just do this" is greatly appreciated.

Tell me more about your set up and I can make some sugestions. How large is your grow space? What size lights? How many plants and by what method?

i have a 400w HPS w/ coolable reflector and ballast. i plan on germinating 6 seeds on my first run and hoping at least 3 are female; if it is all six i can handle it with a 400w i'd think and if less i can just devote more energy to fewer plants.

i intend to grow in an organic soil, probably fox farm, in a tent constructed on a board fitted with wheels, with a pvc piping frame. it will be between 2'X3' and 4'X3' - most likely it will be 3'X3' i plan on making it 5-5.5' tall

it will be lightproofed and fitted with wheels so it will be able to be stowed in a closet in a pinch without distrupting the light cycle in a pinch if need be, but will normally remain in an open room to help prevent unnecessary heat buildup and to provide more fresh air for intake. i live in a 2br apartment by myself, was thinking of devoting said bedroom primarily to the grow, but allowing for everything to be quickly and conventiently hidden in the closet if the need arises.

i simply want to produce enough high quality cannabis in as affordable a fashion as possible to take care of my own consumption without having to pay the high prices demanded for mediocre, let alone good, pot in my city. i have a few friends willing to chip in a relatively small amount towards grow equipment in exchange for a small portion of the harvest (about an ounce each) so this will help relieve my burden.

i could get almost all the equipment i still need for 300 bucks if the aerosol dispensers work well enough to reasonably conceal the smell of about 4 hashberry plants (which i've read on various boards seems to be a relatively low-odor variety to begin with)

and i'm not SEVERELY worried about smell, just so long as neighbors dont smell it 24/7...after all i dont intend to not smoke in my apartment. i just want to be able to have a maintenance guy come in and think "this guy probably smokes pot" instead of "this guy HAS to be growing pot!"

it would just be nice to keep the first grow as low budget as possible without damaging the quality of the final product, and while staying -reasonably- safe. i JUST moved in and am getting all major maintenance worries taken care of before i even germinate, i almost never have people over, etc. i think i can keep it rather low key, i just worry because i hear of people stinking up their whole block and such with a garage grow....

just want to play it safe on the cheap

A few ideas: Make yr tent a little taller, will 6' fit in the closet; you really only need oder control for the last 5 weeks or so of flowering, so you have time to work it out. I would sugest that you get some Ona gel for the room as a back up, but relyon the diy carbon filter you mentioned before. At home Depoit you can get a 6" inline fan and 6" flexable ducting. Use the fan to pull air out of your tent and exust it through the filter; make sure you keep yr ballest outside yr tent; Fox Farm is really good, but add some dolimite lime to it to buffer the acidity, also I like to add extra pearlite to help with drainage

    http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=23960 Try that.

Also, please don't tell your buddies about this hobby unless they grow too. They WILL run their mouths if they have nothing to lose by doing so, it's just a matter of time. I don't really know your situation, but every person that's I've told about my grow, have turned around and told other people so they can sound cool. This has resulted in nothing but broken friendships, teeth being knocked out and paranoia, so just a fair warning bro.

yeah for sure. but they do have something to lose by running their mouths. and i'm not about to have a lot of visitors or anything. in fact, i'm going to try to make it a rule that people not come to my place and keep as few people informed about where i reside in the first place, and i am to have VERY, VERY few people know about whats going on - virtually nobody. at least, nobody without their hands in it.
