    I would like anyone who got an email supposedly from admin@hipforums.com
    (a non-existent email addy), with the title "*DETECTED* Online User Violation" on or around Sept 1st. to let me know.

    If you opened it, it had a short message that said:

    Dear user skip,
    It has come to our attention that your Hipforums User Profile ( x ) records are out of date. For further details see the attached document.
    Thank you for using Hipforums!
    The Hipforums Support Team
    +++ Attachment: No Virus (Clean)
    +++ Hipforums Antivirus - www.hipforums.com

    The attached document is a VIRUS, do not open it!

    If there is anyone who got this message, please let me know. Don't send it to me, just send me the header if you can (the text part only).

    This may be the US gov't attempt to put spyware on your computer. The IP# traces back to Reston, Virginia where the CIA has spy operations.

    If anyone can, I'd like to have the attachment in this file identified and analyzed. Is there anyone here that can do that?

    Thanks!

    I guess the only reason I got it was cause it was supposedly sent from the hipforums, whose mail I obviously don't block...

    But apparently this is a common trojan virus going around, but a dangerous one!

    It was only sent to me because I was in someone else's address list, not because they hacked our server and got everyone's email addys - what I was most concerned about!

    Yeah, I liked that bit about the Hipforums Antivirus. LOL! It don't work very well now, does it?

    there would be much better ways for the cia to access your computer. One way would be to come here as a poster, then attatch a jpg or somehow link to a file which mimics a jpg in the sense that it displays a jpg picture but is in actual fact a root kit - Back Orifice worked on this principle of being able to execute from any file type, believe me, the fbi and cia are 1000 times more sophisticated than a dodgy email, and you know all headers can be falsified

    Lol the CIA is trying to spread viruses to people on a random forum? Seems rather unlikely. I didn't get any such email

    Thanks Jagerhans, but we've already figured out which virus it is and taken action. Who sent it is still a mystery, but they can't do it from the same server anymore, that's for sure!

    I've spent the last couple of days sending info off to hosting companies and a software company demanding they take action against those who are attacking this site.

    I've had a mixed response so far...

    If you really want a response from a company that is partially responsible for an attack on your server, just remind them of their responsbilities and that you will BILL THEM for time, damages to the server, websites and reputation.

    That'll get a better response, guaranteed, as long as they bear some responsibility and you give them a warning.

    I've collected such damages before. :)

    If you really want a response from the cia on this just send a picture of the head of cia operations being buttfucked by all the admins at hips and a letter explaining thats what you will do if their wimpy nohope luser hackers attempt to bite the ass of you or your loyal devoted and intelligent posters. That will get ta confirmation they did it or not
