    Collective Soul's New Album-"Afterwards"-IMO-

As an old hippy raised on the music of the 60s and beyond' I really like this group Collective Soul-They have such good song writing and a great blend of ass kicking guitar as well as ballads and love songs-
Their new album-AFTERWARDS-is different then their previous albums-If you liked the ealy days of this group when their sound was going the way of Metallica' then you may not like this new album. They have a couple of real head banging rockers on here but most of the songs are really less screaming guitars and more about the vocals. Alot of love songs but don't let that fool ya. They start slow then build with most of the tunes getting loud in the middle-Just a great blend-really good arrangements and lyrics-A few of the songs ' which all but one were written by Ed Rollin the lead singer and guitar 'were written for and/or about his dad' who died a few years ago. He was a preacher and Ed grew up singing in church. So there is a type of spiritual sound to this-not Jesus songs but just songs with positve messages-
This album is really mixed well with alot of great harmonies and thumping bass bottom to the songs. Some sound like the 80s band The Cars-and I also hear some Tom Petty sounding tunes also-and even a couple that sound alittle like the Beatles' who they all really loved-This group has really gotten better then before-They are still a rock group but with more intricate designs and color to their work.-Guys-if ya wanta get lucky tonight-put this one on-you'll be happy you did' AFTERWARDS.

I think you will dig this album . I've been playing it in the car over and over for 3 days now and it just gets better the more I listen to it. Ed really did alot of multi tracks and there is alot of hidden sounds in there. Kinda like the Beatles Sgt. Pepper where there are small bits of music interwieved through out the album. I love it-It has a really good summertime feel to it. A happy album!-These guys just keep growing and improving-I can definatly hear sounds from past groups in time like The Cars-some of these tunes would actually be cool to dance to!

Hollywood is one of maybe 3 songs on there that I don't like much. Check out the rest of the album' you'll like it. That is one of just a couple of heavy rock type tunes.
