I was wondering if it is possible to harvest part of the plant's buds (lets say half) early in the harvest season, and then the rest later in the season. The point of this would be to get the heady buds and the couchlock bus off the same plant, anybody ever try this, is it possible or does it kill the plant? I'm not talking about pulling off any of the fan leaves or anything, just half the BUD.
No this would not work. And what you talking about doesn't depend on the high you will get. If the strain you are growing is a heavy indica you will get really heavy couch lock. If the strain your are growing is sativa then you will get a really head high.
Well what he is referring to - the type of high part at least - is affected by the maturity of the trichomes. It takes a good eye to tell when the trichomes are "ripe" and harvesting a lil early will give a bit more heady high less cbd if I remember. Harvesting at peak maturity will have the plants phenotypical (I wonder if that's a word) high. After a while you will see that the top and outer buds will mature first and after those are harvested the lil wispy and popcorn buds can be left on for up to 3-4 weeks more to hopefully fill out. <- not worth the effort IMO.
If you harvest when the trics are all clear, you get a very heady high...harvesting when all the trics are amber, you get the couchlock high...I am harvesting this years crop just as you stated...half with cloudy trics (a mix of the heady and the couchlock) and then a couple of weeks later the other half...for my nighttime smokin' pleasure...
