We can only pray that all of these cops will lose their jobs when the lawsuits happen. Otherwise, we truly are in a world of shit.

I would personally like for WHYNotNews to tell us which police district this occured in so that people like us can personally express our disgust to the chief of police him/herself.

Oh my gosh.. everyday I see a new post in this forum about cops arresting people for things that are not crimes. Who the fuck do they think they are and why the hell are they getting away with it!? Something has got to be done about this... At least it proves that cops do indeed have way way too much power if they are arresting people for bullshit. They should NOT get away with it though. This is so sickening what the FUCK.

Thats a good idea... we should definitely research it. The name tags were shown in the video so it might not be too hard. We gotta protest this shit even though we'd probably get arrested

its no secret in France and Germany at least, that police are known to be dim wits. Even if you barely graduate from your studies, well heck, you can always become a policeman. You don't even need to go to a university.

If you google "people arrested for reading the consitution" in google... this very thread is the first page to show up.

That's saying a lot, given that free-speech violations occur pretty frequently.

    :(

Why do you think it was in Washington DC? I'm not saying you're wrong. I just think we should be absolutely sure we know where this happened so that we don't flood the wrong police department with livid phone calls.

    Peace,

You can see in the one video on the back of one of the cop's shirt that it says "US Capitol Police".

I am truly sickened by this.

    Peace all

I am of the opinion that a big fuss needs to be made, for starters. If a big enough fuss is made, it will (hopefully) have the rusult of damaging the police department's reputation (which they will not like), and creating a lot of political pressure to release the people they've arrested (if they haven't already), as well as get whoever is responsible for this (be it the officers themselves or someone higher up) in trouble.

I wrote Matthew Rothschild from Progressive Magazine, asking him to write an article on it, and he wrote back saying he would look into it. I've also written Mother Jones, but they haven't responded. If you know of any other lefty, altertnative publications, it probably wouldn't hurt to email them a link to these videos.

So, how many police districts are there in DC? If there's only one, then it might be a good idea to email and telephone them to express your discontent. If a lot of people do this, then it will be made known to the police that a lot of people know about what has happened and a lot of people are not happy about it.

I have also emailed whynotnews.org, asking them for more details about what happened. They have not yet responded to me. But if/when they do, I will post the information they send me for you all to read.

Peace, love, and all that good stuff,

I emailed a couple of alternative news columnists. Haven't heard back from any yet.

I plan on calling the DC police district, but we need to make sure we know which one it is. I'll try to get that information. I've also never done that before, so any advice on what to say is appreciated.

    Let's get the word out!

I've never done anything like this either, plastic bagism. I'm not an activist. But this was just too much of an outrage for me to ignore.

Your guess is as good as mine, as far as what to say to the police. What I'm doing is waiting to hear back from whatnotnews.org. I'm hoping that they'll know which district this happened in.

    Peace,
