I just watched some old Kiss concert on VH1 and I am just so amazed that there were so many people in the audience. I am old school and proud of it and I love music from every generation' but this band just plain sucks. I don't understand what anybody ever saw in them. They had lousy vocals and sloppy' limited guitar playing. I think the world was really ripped off by this group. So many great bands and these guys made tons of money from doing so little entertaining. It must have been the shock and awe effect of it all. Kinda like Alice Cooper or Marilyn Manson. If you don't look at the group but close your eyes and just listen to their music'you'll hear so much bad notes and sloppy singing. I think people work too hard for their money to give it away to bands with no talent. I've heard local bands around Portland that should be rich and famous but aren't/ They have soo much more talent then these guys. And how much longer will Simmons be on tv?-OMG-when he says "It's good to be me!"-he's laughing at all the people they suckered into seeing them or buying their junk.-You notice when they took off the makeup nobody wanted to hear or see them-what's that tell ya?-Old rockers like Kiss and Ted Nugent and The Stones (who really are great!) should just retire-give the young people a chance and a run for the money.-Old rockers just don't look good in spandex-(visualize David Crosby in tights! lol)
Well Rob, I loved the band. But, two things bother me. #1. TRY to pivture them in make-up doing a ballad like 'Beth'. Laughable at best. #2. Gene Simmons TV show. Fucked the rest of the group. Made em look BAD I think. Unlike AC/DC's 'Dirty Deeds.' Did ya know that is about killing some guys wife???? Uncool.
I really tried to get into their music but there was just nothing there. Must be an aquired taste-The tv show is real dumb-these stations are just really trying so hard to outdo each other on this reality crap that they are just boring.Simmons looks completely bored to death and has nothing to say-great show-lol
They're a Halloween band. Their main audience was pre-teens. They had some catchy pop tunes like 'Beth' and 'New York Groove'. As it's said, rock is 10% talent, 90% image. Gene and Paul were on VH1 telling their story last October (Halloween time, that figures. Meatloaf was also telling his story on VH1 about Bat Out of Hell and released a third album on Halloween too. Surprise!) Gene mentioned their humble beginnings. They would use a few extra Marshall amp cases with no speakers or electronics in them at their early concerts because they couldn't afford them at that time. And having a reality show is the 'in thing' these days for pop stars, even though nothing happens. Even Ozzy Osborne's daughter got a reality show. ZZZzzzzzzz........... I suggest a reality show of dead rockers. Just show the cadavers there on the sofa. Absolutely nothing happening. Like the old Dead String Quartet on the original Saturday Night Live. .
I was in college in the 70s during the original Kiss insanity. I had a dorm roommate who was totally into them, even papered the wall on his side of the room with Kiss posters and magazine cutouts. He first got into Kiss after listening to one of their albums, without seeing what they looked like! That's right, he was sold on the sound! I tried to cure him. I played some early Led Zeppelin, he got into it, then I said, "Now you gotta admit, this is better than Kiss!" and he replied, "No, but it's comparable." Sad, truly sad.
If someone wants to buy something, Who are you to interfere? no offense... Gene Simmons did do something good in his life - Lil' Chris would never of made it without the TV programme Rock School (or something along those lines) Plus the private school was were my old form teach went to. Personally they're not my thing. Many more things I like out there. Meatloaf rocks. Hes old but who cares?? Who actually watches reality TV? because all i ever hear is people who dont like it... Seems like a waste of time,
KISS is awsome; i think you people are on crack. -sorry, they are one of my fav. bands, you people aren't on crack, but they are still awsome.
Man, Kiss was like a car wreck. You knew it was wrong to look, but you just HAD to at least one time. I went, it was like the circus. Loads of fun if you don't take it (or yourself) too seriously.
Thats what they were selling-"the show" because they are the first to admit they have very little musical talent. I've just always been so suprised by how many records they sold and who went to their concerts. As a musican myself' I can only speak about the music and it is so basic and sounds so much alike on every song. There is just so many better groups out there that never made it' especially where these guys are from' NY -So many musicians in New York and these guys made it-I'm just amazed how they did it-Good PR people I guess. And lots of make-up-Do girls really think Gene Simmons is good looking or is it all about the lizard tongue?lol--Why not do a show on Pink Floyd or Led Zep?
I agree with ya robspace2, KISS was a joke! I've always listend to music that had a message, that made me think, like FLOYD and ZEP,and who'd a guessed SUPERTRAMP! As for the KISS fans, well ,just read my sig!
I agree there ST-I suppose I should stop putting down other peoples bands but it is just my opinion and nothing for anyone to worry about. I just can't understand the lack of talent there. Even after years together they never seemed to sound tight or get their harmonies worked out and the lead guitar riffs are lame.- I just saw an old Supertramp concert from England and it was real good-Breakfast In America is a classic!-right up there with Dark Side Of The Moon-
