First off... I'll admit, I am no where near being a hippie. I eat meat, I enjoy cars, and I support the wars (Aftganistan and Iraq). However, I have found my self become drawn to the other side as of late. I often find my self fantazing about meeting a women with hairy arm pits, and who wears long flowing skirts who convinces me to give up all that I am...

    So. I'm wondering;
Am I crazy or just bored with my life?

Probably to seek attention or entertainment with questions calculated to ruffle feathers. The wisest response is none at all. :)

Seems like you're just looking for a different kind of woman , so bored with your current life maybe? Hippies can also eat meat and dig their car (and I suppose cars in general too) though. :D

As a hippie myself I'm hardly going to say you're crazy am I???? Besides, I'm crazy, totally crazy.
I'm sorry....I don't want to be critical or anything......but is there something wrong with our style of life? You seem to think that being a hippy's a bad thing. Do you really feel that way? Or is it just how you think you should feel?

Haha? Sorry not sure if you were kidding... Anyways, I am no where near being a "neo-con" for the simple fact that I support gay marrige, stem cell research and abortion.... In fact the only thing "neo-conservative" is support is the war in Iraq...

ps. Sorry if I offended anyone. I thought hippies were open minded and always willing to offer philosophical advice.

LOL, I'm sure he was kidding. You might just have a thing for hip woman, but it's completely possible that you coming to the dark side. I suggest just going on as usual, but with extra thinking. Thought as in lying in bed and thinking of all. It helped me alot, so maybe it will help you sort out whats happening. Best of luck.

I honestly don't see it as dark vs light... But you are right, I have been doing a lot of soul searching in the past few months. However I am coming up more questions than answers.

I juat have to comment on one thing first....I liked how you called it the "other side".....

but hey....I eat meat, (not red meat....personal reasons) I REALLY enjoy cars (especially classic) but I do not support war. ANY WAR. But that's who you are, and I am who I am, and Im not here to be jugemental, so welcome to the "Dark Side" brother  ...the grass IS much greener over here......:spliff:

And crazy??? Aren't we all just a bit mad?

    (pssst...normal's boring anyway) :punk:

Perhaps I should have not called it the "other side", but I'm stuck with it now. And maybe I should have posed this as a more philosophical question like... Is being a hippie a matter of nature over nurture? If so would ones natural hippieness (Is hippieness even a word? lol) eventually override ones upbringing?

No worries, it's completely understandable to be suspicious of a persons motives.

I haven't become anything yet, but thank you. For now I am just an explorer on lifes road.

I think its good to explore, man. i'm not saying dont become a hippie, try it, see what it's like, but If your basing it completely on liking hippie chiks I don't think that has anything to do with you being a hippie.

but being a hippie is kind of something you gotta decided if you ask other people if you should do it it kind of defeats the purpose of being independant.

    peace

I wouldn't base anything on my taste in women... Did that once and it got me into trouble. lol Anyways, I've always kinda had what could be called hippie tastes in music. Meaning I love the Doors (Riders on The Storm is kinda my unofficial theme song), find Frank Zappa entertaining and will always have respect for The Greatful Dead.

The only person who can dig into your head is you. What these folks have to offer is friendship, not unquestionable wisdom. Perhaps you should consider what you want out of life and go from there?

You mentioned something about how "hip" people are supposed to be open-minded.. I'm sure you'll find some abbrasive posts during your stay here--but that is to be assumed on any forum--don't take it to heart. Assholes will be assholes, regardless of what they call themselves. The real hipsters are not only opinionated, but tolerant and caring, for they accept that love and understanding serve as the answer to life's question.

Have fun figuring things out.. hahah

Ok... my first reaction to this was suspicion... and I'm still a tad leery of your agenda but you did return and engage respectfully so I'll take a stab at entertaining this like a serious question....

I eat meat and appreciate cars as well... of course I don't consider myself a hippie either but...
I choose to respect that you are holding what I believe to be a very erroneous point of view here.

"The other side"?... as in the dark side? Do you feel as though you're being seduced by evil?

This makes it enormously difficult for me to suspend disbelief and assume that you are being sincere here.

Exactly what is that? Precisely what do you suppose you're giving up?

Discretion being the better part of valor, I shall curb my acid wit for now and just point out that at 24 you've barely begun to live life... assuming a traditional upbringing, you've been on your own for just a handful of years. The process of separating yourself from mindsets omnipresent in your upbringing may find you emerging with radically different ideals than you claim now.

Your expressed support for the war in Iraq suggests to me that you may still be under the sway of the neo-con opinion mill that tailors the perceptions of those willing to subject themselves unquestioningly to its versions of "facts". Essentially you're still thinking the way you've been told to think and may have little idea as of yet where YOU really stand on things.

This response has one of two possible effects on you...

1- you're going to give some closely but not deeply held ideas some serious thought and begin the process of deprogramming yourself....

    or

2- you're going to have a good long snicker at my expense because I actually took the bait dangled by someone who just wants to get some damned hippies all worked up.
