it is a medicine. pure and simple. its a all natural way to releave asma (god idk how to spell) plus can help cure mouth cancer, in most cases saving lifes. look at the earth. its way overpopulated, the result of legalizing it in the longrun would expand life spands. thus causing a bigger problem for world hunger. in all honesty i would like it legalized for personal reasons. but not to be used as a medicine. so in some ways, the government has some good reasons to keep it illigal. (wierd commin from a 15 year old eh?) PLEASE DEBATE ME!!! lol
Well it was made illegal twice in two different manners. In the early 20th century it was illegal to be sold unless you had a stamp on your container that said you paid tax on it. However, the government let very few of those stamps into circulation, so it was mostly illegal for the country. The most recent change to that was Nixon's creation of the FDA and classifying marijuana. The reason that he did that was the quell the counter-cultural hippie movement by separating them (think about it, hippies met and there was pot all around), because he anticipated it would alter society's perception of the Vietnam War. So the question isn't why it became illegal, it's why it is still illegal. The main reason I think it's still illegal is because of the people we have in office. If the country wasn't so wrapped up in resolutions for an exit strategy for Iraq and counter-terrorism debates, then pot might be legal right now. As it stands, New Hampshire's legislation may legalize marijuana within 2 years, and the rest of the country will probably follow suit in the next 2-3 years, or at least the parts of the country I'm concerned with. Alabama, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Kansas can keep it illegal and it won't affect me one bit.
Actually, the real reason why it was made illegal in America was because many white people didn't like the mexicans and blacks. Outlawing weed was their way of controlling the races they didn't like.Harry Anslinger, who is considered to be the father of the war on drugs actually said that marijuana should be outlawed because it made white women go to black men; among other bullshit reasons of course. I'm not making that up. Another reason was because purely because of money. Many wealthy people that donated to politicians campaigns at that time would have been in competition with marijuana; mainly people that had invested in synthetic products, paper, alcohol, and oil. I believe that there are two major reasons as to why marijuana is still illegal. First off, if marijuana was suddenly legalized, there would be many people that would lose money and possibly their jobs; cops, judges, lawyers, people that have invested with products that would be in direct competition with cannabis plants, etc. Secondly, the government is too arogant to suddenly admit that it's been wrong for the past 70 years.
jcat654: You ought to be illegal, friend. Illegal, illegal, illegal! The English police is on your ass. Don't let that pig look in the glove box, man.
The the main reasons pot won't be legaized any time soon are simple and powerful. The first is all the people who be out of work, DEA agents, prison guards, Cops all have powerful unions and alot of moral authoritry. If pot were legal they would be denied a major sorce of funding(asset forfiture) , as well as the reduced need for their services. The second is political, cause no matter what they belive nobody is gonna win an election by being for drugs.
The Funder who payed for the the 1930's move reefer madness was a lumber industrialist who created the term Marihuana because it sounded mexican and he hoped that would scare people, your right the reason for making it illegal that they gave the public was pure and simple racism, because that was so publicily accepted then, the real reason lumber, cotton and tobbaco, those days our government was compromised of people who made money from those, just like our government compromised of people who make money from oil now. The Reason they wont legalize it anytime soon is because their greedy, with so many home grow operations in the us right now they wouldnt be able to make any money from taxing it, so they wage a war on it, saying it will make you accidently shoot your friends, or run over little girls on bikes, when in reality you can take 3 bongs to the face and still drive better then someone who has drank also has anyone seen the antiweed commercial with the dog talking to the girl telling her he wishes she didnt smoke, i dont know about you but if i was yougner and i saw that it would make me want to smoke pot just to hear dogs talk
i cant even get myself to hallucinate on acid, i can control visual and auditory intake, but not see or hear things that arent there
All of your conspiracy theories aside, here are the facts on why it is illegal in the US today: It is in the best interest of certain large corporations to keep it illegal. Whether were talking about the weed itself or the possibility of increased acceptance / use of hemp. The companies pay PAC's (Political Action Committees) to try to force, bribe, or convince the government to keep weed illegal. Thur ya go fellas.
