amount of sleep for a dog during the day? I know a cat sleeps around 16 hours of the day, but Im not sure what it is for a dog and I think my dog is sleeping way too much. I would say she sleeps between 20-21 hours of the day(maybe even more). She gets up for her walks, which probably total an hour each day. I dont think she is sick or anything....she eats and drinks well and was just at the vet not long ago and nothing else seems to be out of the ordinary. Actually, I think she is a bit depressed. I dont get to see her alot because she has to live with my parents (my apartment wont allow dogs bigger than 15lbs) but lately I have been spending alot of time there and Im noticing her behavior. My mother says she is always like this, which concerns me because I think its a sign that something is wrong. What do you think or suggest????
does she have an animal freind to pass the day with? If shes at home by herself all day with nothing to do or no one to talk to she might be lonely. We adopted a cat to keep our dog company, she and him becamse really good freinds and it made him a lot happier. I think it makes a big difference to their life if they have another companion to spend the day with...another dog or even a cat - goto make sure your dog is ok with cats though. I feel so sorry for dogs who are kept bythemselves in the house, isnt too bad if ppl are home all day but otherwise i think they get very lonely. oh our dog started sleeping alot and looking down when he was in pain, he was very stoic and didnt ever makes sounds to let us know, but he wouldnt move and slept alot more, he had arthritis pretty bad though and we had known about it, just didnt know it had gotten so very painful. Not sure if that is helpful.
She does have an animal friend....a cat. But the cat is out playing most of the time and ususally when she is home our dog ignores him. The cat loves her....always chasing her and kissing her, but our dog just isnt interested. As far as another dog....I know my parents wouldnt get another dog, so that idea is sorta nixed. I think you are right, I think she is lonely. Not that she isnt well cared for.... I just dont know what to do about this. I am concerned...she is like my child. Maybe there is nothing I can do. I dunno.........
