    Hi,

    I have a theory,

What if we select photoplankton that have rapid life cycles and then splice into them DNA coding from molluscs that expresses shell formation?

I believe that mollusc shells (being calcium carbonate) are the key factor here...

The plan is this... our genetically modified photoplankton metabolise carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (via photosynthesis) into sugars and metal carbonates (ie calcium carbonate) the sugars of course will be used by the photoplankton as energy but the calcium carbonates produced within the cells of the plankton will upon the expiration of the photoplankton sink to the sea bed as insoluble carbonate....the net effect will be to scrub carbon from the atmosphere and form a 'man made' carbon reservoir, at the bottom of the ocean, from the carbonate rich remains of the GM photoplankton....

I just wondered what people thought of this idea, maybe someone can point out anything which may help correct or improve this theory before I approach the right people...

yeah ....nature already came up with them they are called coccolithophores

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccoliths

-the best bet for humans is stop producing large amounts of co2 and
    over loading the remaining ecosystems

-stop distroying those same natural co2 absorbing ecosystems

-stop trying to fuck with nature with genetic modification

-let gaia do its thing ....its already knows what it is doing

over all humans need to live with nature and stop trying to control it

Well those coccoliths sound perfect for modification, Thanx!

As for your comment on controlling nature, what do you think houses are, or farms are or medicines?
Or the fact that every cereal you eat is domesticated etc....Icould go on..

Humans control nature, that is what makes us human.
Physically we are weak and vulnerable creatures, nature has provided us with brains to overcome these weaknesses...

If you dont like it go live in a rainforest!

I respect your love for gaia and the ecology, but you will never stop progress...

If Brazil and other nations with rainforests would stop hacking them down at the rate they are CO2 levels would go down.

humans dont control nature, those who try fail miserably, we can help nature in ways we can plant things but the more we deviate from that and into controlling (genetic modification) the harder we'll fall

our brains aren't to overcome weaknesses, humans are fast, agile, strong and pretty sturdy naturally, wouldn't be here otherwise

and houses, farms, chemical bullshit, etc. are lame attempts at controlling nature, nature has answers to our needs, we need only realize them

and "prgoress" is a lie, the universe works cyclically look around if you want proof
