Hey guys!
If you haven't noticed we are now a sub-forum in the fashion and crafts section. It has recently been brought to my attention that some people think I have been an un-active moderater but I'd like to let you know that this is untrue. I still keep an eye on you guys . I don't interfer much, I like how everyone has an opportunity to answer rather than just me. Also, I'd like to point out I am NOT the only moderator. When this forum was created there were two others unofficial mods. I was one of three people (ElectricBuddha and Fleassy are the other two) who wished we had dreadlock forum(due to all the dready questions scattered among various boards). I was the only one at the time with a hipforums membership(the way to make a forum). So, together, we collaberated our information, opinions and experiances to create what we have today. I think this place has turned into a wonderful caring forum, one of the best here(but hey, I'm partial ).
Now for the second issue that has been brought to my attention! STICKIES! I found them very useful to keep on the front page so basic needs and questions can be found quickly. In the beginning everyone seemed to like them. When the forum was started in the first place they were put there to be like the "sub-forums" (which you can't do on personal forums). I've just been told though about lower video resoultion. I can understand why so many stickies may be annoying for some! So lets figure out what to do. We'll knock a few off, we'll combine a few, ect. I really want to hear your opinions, questions, ideas, comments, whatever you can come up with to improve the quality of our forum community. And always feel free to voice to me your opinions on what I can do to keep this place a nice forum to come to. I'm always around and can be reached on here or if you'd prefer by PM. Lets get the ball rolling...

what about making a READ THIS FIRST sticky that has all the good important content from all of the stickies, but in just one thread?

 

thats a very good idea. I like that. I think I'll be taking the next few days going over all the info of the stickies and putting it all into one big thread so BEWARE OF CONSTRUCTION. hehe. Right now I'm deleting the extra ones. Next will be breaking that down...

 

yah the other thing is extracting the good info from the stickies and getting rid of the mindless dribble that drags them on for pages and pages making them hard to get through as a newbie

it Doesnt work. weve had one up in the rainbow family forum for a while now and noone looks at it.

so were constantly subjected to the same questions even tho the answers are in a sticky titled RAINBOW BASICS PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTIN!

but of course from what ive seen on this forum,yall already know stickys dont work,cause i see the same shit here all the time...

my suggestion would be condense the stickys then delete immediately any post that could be answered by the stickys.. but that would require actually monitoring this forum 24/7 an that doesnt seem like it will happen.

 

i feel as if the way drumminmamma runs the events and festival forum is a good example.
as soon as something is duplicated or can be answered in another thread she locks the questionable thread after referring the poster to the thread that is relevant.

but again that would require someone goin thru the forum a couple times a day..

but hey it would quit this shit of people havin 3 threads askin the same questions that could be answered by the stickys that they didnt read...

Skip put it here, I don't really get to choose that. I'm just happy we're easier to access.

 

its almost impossible to prevent it but its nice to have things close at hand to those who know about it. I do not have the time to go through this 3 times a day and do not plan on that. At the end of the day unless I catch it during some of my free time it will be handled.

 

oh trust me i know its near impossible.. i do wish people would look at stickys before posting.. but alas,wish in one hand and shit in the other..

Wow, well I guess that's a step in the right direction. I'm with hhb on the moderation though... it seems like since knotty know-how gets so much more traffic from new members than other parts of the forum it needs more moderation too. If nothing else, just to cut down on that messy situation where there are 3 threads on every page asking the same questions.

I guess if I'm going to stay a part of hipforums I'm just going to have to get used to my posts getting moved around all the time, huh? It doesn't seem like it really happens except in the Fashion and Crafts area... and since every time I complain *I* end up the bad guy, I guess I just need to either get used to it or go back into the life of solitary artist with little connection to the outside world. Oh well, maybe some time away from the forums would be good for me, especially since a few people around here are determined to think I'm a bitch. Still, it's been nice having people handy to show my stuff to, who appreciate it...

For the same reason that Household Tips and Body Care subforums are in fashion and crafts... I suppose these sort of things are considered 'crafty'. (Maybe because dreads are made and whatnot?) Anyway, that's the logic we're going with.

Everyone's posts get moved around and deleted etc.... hopefully the moving around isn't absolutely unbearable, but it does happen on occasion...

I don't think anyone thinks that of you! You're one of the craftiest people here...

That's the whole point of this forum, is to show off everyone's stuff.

 

Well, there are certain things that get asked umpteen times on any dreadlock community, so why not sticky and clean up just those sorts of things? You could have a sticky a piece on each or these topics:

How to start dreadlocks
Maintaining dreadlocks
Beads and wraps
Wax: yes or no?
