I've been talking to one of my friends about the two of us hooking up in a friends with benefits kind of way. Everything would be all well and good, except he can't use condoms because of the chemicals (this is what he says, not because of the latex but because of the chemicals, although he didn't elaborate on what chemicals.) And I can't take birth control pills because they mess me up really badly (either make me have my cycle for three weeks, or cause pain in my lower back and kill my libido along with the weight gain that I really don't need... my family members -mother, sisters, aunts- have been the same way anytime they tried bc).

He said that there's always the shot or implant- but I feel that the hromones in those are the same as what's in a bc pill, right? So wouldn't they have the same or similar effect?

IUD's are scary, and not a route I want to go with this only being a hook-up kind of thing. Same with a diaphragm, really.

What else is there? Preferably otc, that will keep me from getting pregnant, but allow us to have our fun?

Haha... that's what I've been thinking, honestly. We sure as hell aren't using the pull out method, which is probably what he's done the most in the past.

lamb skin condoms as well, if he says its the chemicals it may be the lubricant or the spermicides. If its the latex that he has problems with he should still be able to use one for a little while without to much trouble. If nothing else the "Natural","100% lambskin" condoms while expensive will get the job done. If he doesn't want to use these then he's putting you at risk, drop him and find some one who will.

Thanks everyone... that's what I was thinking, unlubricated without spermicide and/or lamb skin. He's stubborn, but I'm blunt, so I'll tell him point blank no willy cover, no deep sea diving. lol.

I'm kind of nervous about the female condom because I've heard it's not nearly as protective as the male condom. What is it? Something like 80-some% effective? That's certainly better than none, but not enough so that I feel comfortable.

HEre is a link for non-latex condoms http://www.safesense.com/condoms-non-latex.shtml

My husband used to brea out if he used condoms with spermicide (nonoxyl 9 I think)

I'd say he wraps it or no sex. It just isn't worth the risk of pregnancy or STD's.

I agree that he should have to try the condom thing. Also, have you looked into the minipill? I can't take combination pills because of my migraines, but so far the minipill has been great and I haven't had any side effects at all.

Lamb's skin condoms do not prevent the spread of STD's. Just a warning, although it does protect against pregnancy. I discovered this a month ago when I found my fiance's stash of lamb's skin condoms and read the warning. Tomorrow he's getting tested for diseases b/c he gets free health care for serving in Iraq.

    Peace and love

I was going to say, if there's any chemical that he has problems with, it's most likely nonoxynol-9, which is a spermicide.
So, try unlubed condoms and if he changes his mind and says it's the latex, try polyurethane. They're also thinner AND stronger than latex.
