How is being an old hippie different than being a young hippie for you?

What do you think the young hippies are doing all wrong?

Personally I'm 24, and I've been an official wannabe hippie since I was like 10. I mean I'm a hardcore wannabe and a total low income yuppie. i have over 3 feet of hair a full-time job and i shop at whole paycheck. I've always wanted to be a real hippie...[daydream] ride around on a bus listening to good music all the time or join a commune or blah blah blah. But I'm not even hip enough to hoop or folf in reality, that's what the hippyer than me's do where i roll.

I think there are alot of people like me people who find hippies very enchanting and alluring and desirable.

But I also find that most old hippies left the full-time hippie job ages ago to get full time jobs in the babylon, so that's partly why i asked that 2nd q. I'm wondering if you old hippies think all this running off on buses that kids do these days is a little silly or good for the soul?

One thing that folks back in our day did, I believe, was respect women more. Things seem to have reverted to a pre-60's exploitation of women. Young people, including my students, are saturated with media talking about ho's and portraying females only as sexual objects. Yet in so many areas women have moved ahead, with many more opportunities than they had pre-60's.

Yeah psuedo i see bad reflections of the sexploitation reflected the behavior of women too i just dont understarnd why perfectly sexy girls feel the desire to pour on a full coat of make up flat iron their hair and push their boobs out of their shirt to feel sexy about themselves i shud bee so lucky to be as sexy as them in my pajamas i'd wear them everywhere the whole pupulation cud bee ahuredpercent sexier if theyd just strip down to their hippy costume. my hippiest costume i have now is an earth day shirt my grandma gave me when i was 12 cuz its the oldest peice of clothes i still actually my moms ed's foreign carparts is the oldest shirt that went nowhere thats what happens when people with nothing useless to say start typing.

boys are much sexier as hippies too smiles

I think hippy is a state of mind, not an age. We like to keep up on things - stay "hip" which, consequently, alters our lifestyle :) Also, those of us pioneers who broke out of the '50's mental fog and became psychoactive have a different story to tell than the young hippies who are writing their own version of hippidom. This isn't one of the easiest planets in the Uni-verse to live in but it's getting better all the time thanks to all the hippies of all generations.

"I've been an official wannabe hippie since I was like 10"

When one has a very strong affinity with something, they were usually there. Do you think you might be a reincarnated hippy?

Hello there old sage grass hoppers,

I've been thinking a lot ever since the first time i've ever opened my 2 eyes and i was thinking lately like man.. like what is going on ?. what are we supposed to do about all this mess. ANd dont git me wrong there, i know we live in an awsome green world but there is so much bullshit going on evrywhere. And all the polution?! i mean i try to do my part here and there; turn off the lights, shower only once or twice a week, pick up evrybodies goddamn trash , and pass on the peace message to as much people i can, you know. I believe i've only transfert an image of being peaceful and respectful to mother earth and my fellow borthers and sisters. Most of them dress a little more artsy-fartsy and draw loads of peace signs evrywhere (which is great!) but my buddy and i realized they are mostly doing all this to be swish! haha .
I would simply like to make other people realise the truth u know! take care of our eath and our living friends. And make mucha mucha better goddamn musik for cryin out loud! ( another 3-days-of-peace&music would be quite amazing too!)
Now tell me my old and wise hippies..what do you think we should do , all together, to help make this a better place?

    Thank you! :)
    Love
    Alexe from CANADA!

For a long time I was confused as to what I was, but one thing I knew I wanted more than money, or fame, or even sex, and that was to be free; to do as I pleased without hurting any one. I think that that summarizes for me what a hippie should be, or what should be at the core. You can be free in many ways, but it's your choice what you consider to be free.
For me all the other stuff like conservation, vegetarianism, congregations, protests, bright dressing, knowing your hippie history, loving all races equally, taking hallucinogenics etc, are the icing, but the cake is freedom...(BTW first song sang in Woodstock, when it seems that all was gonna fall apart, because the stars had not arrived yet,"freedom" )

hey! my advice is, just do it! jump on a bus or train (better for environment), and go to a place you think you might like. I did it; first you might feel a bit lost and homesick, but in time, you'll see, you'll feel like you are at the peak of your life (with a little help of marijuana of course;)) and you can always come home if things don't work out for you.
    good luck!

My view of hippie was that is was a psychedelic culture that ultimately slung you into a new definition of human. If you trip regularly on sone heavy sunshine, microdot or whatever, what comes out of that is a conscious expereince of another world, a world that man has longed to reach. When the freaks snapped to the fact that we could not convince overall society of this, we split to the country. But really, it is the consciousness in you that changes, and moving the body to whereaver has little effect.
So now I'm a Tantric Yogin, because I've pursued avenues that the LSD pointed to. So I consider hippie as an offshoot to higher things, higher spiritual ethics and ways of life. In that regard, if the transcendental that marked so much of original hippie, like in the Haight, can be reproduced in any individual, then they are on the same mental track as the original hippies were.
It is not age baby, it is your state of consciousness. Peace, Love, and Flowers, Yogin Bhairava Atmabhoda Sarasvati

Being one of those old hippies; I can only say that I have a certain hurt in my soul.... reason is, that I see those after me as being less willing to actually ACT, as opposed to mouth platitudes.... Back in the day, we went demonstrations/had collective dialouges/ actively spoke out and engaged our fellow bro's & sis's in what we believed in.... Today seems but a pale comparison.... Now,,,, you rightly might ask what I myself do to effect change>>> Well, I live homeless/don't pay taxes/attend every demonstration that's around, and actively engage anyone who will listen in conversations that still have the core values of ole time hippedom... Other than pickin up a gun,,, what is one supposed to do?????=============squid

Complete peace in this world is not something that is going to happen overnight. It is something that is going to take alot of time and alot of hardwork, from the people who cared, the people who cares and from the people who will care.I got a few ideas for that.

1-Be yourself, live the life you want to,be the person YOU want to be,not the one everyone wants you to be or the one you should be,just be you, thats the best thing a person can do.

2-Live every morning like it was your first one and every night like it was your last one.

3-Dont judge, none of us are perfect and neither should we be,there is something quite imperfect about perfection.

4-Go out, place your feet on new ground,go to wherever you can, live your life, and love every second of it.

5-dont do to others what you wouldnt like to see happening to yourself

6-sometimes life´s too much of a joke to take it all that seriously

7-live on the world you want to,and if you dont live on the world where you want to live, change your current world until it is the place where you really want to be.

8-Dont aim to be powerful, dont aim to be famous, dont aim to be rich, just aim to be happy.

9-when you feel everyone is running too fast slow down yourself and take a look around, you might notice something you havent before.

10-learn to care about something else than just yourself

11-listen to the music you want to,wear the clothes you want to,watch the movies you want to,be an individual not a group, or better yet,be an individual in a group.

12-why hate when you can love?why fight when you can help?why hurt when you can heal?why cry when you can laugh?

This are just a few thoughts for now,the moment more cross my mind,i´ll post them somewhere over this forums.

13-Dont tag yourself or others,we´re humans not products.

14-Dont be indiferent, have an opinion on everything, may it be positive or negative, supportive of or against of.

15-express yourself, dont just keep ideas on your head, express them!

16-I may not know for sure how the earth was originated but I can think of thousands of ideas to prevent its extinction.

17-We all are born as books in blanks, everything and everyone fills up and paints the pages.

18-Be the person you would love to meet.

19-Dont regret anything.See all that has happened in the past, may it be in your life or in the world, as another step towards personal growth.

20-Try to see the ocean inside the people´s waves.

21-Make the best out of your talents.

22-Talk when you want to say something that really matters to you.

23-love love love love-the best solution to all the problems in the world, its for free,it makes you happy and it makes a difference.

Once again,if I come up with more I´ll´post them.

When I hear "hippie" I immediately think "alternate lifestyle". It's not about drugs, rock and roll, or appearance but how you live your life. Showing respect and love for your fellow man, when possible. Growing your own food is more important than weed. What kind of shelter do you live in, a house, yurt, van, or a tipi? It's about showing love and respect to your sex partner. It's about an entire universe of alternate methods of living that are outside the box! Yeah, I love rock & roll, getting high, and grow my own food. My hair is halfway down my back & I'm a dude. I consider myself as a Hippie, and being Native American just helps out. I see alot of people who want to be Hippies but just don't have a clue! You have to find out who you are before you can be a Hippie! Good Luck!!!

Dear sister you seem to be on the rite path. It's always been easier to talk the talk , then to walk the walk. Old and young we learn together to find the peace and the love. The differace between the age groups i belive is one of distraction. we had just a little in the way of t.v. time [one per house ] and our parents dictated most of what was watched. We had a great mass of peers being the baby boomers so we hung out and conected with the music , the anti war movment, the fest scene ect. What we did see on t.v. was a war that took our friends and brothers thru a draft and a somewhat misguided duty to serve our country. What we got back was those same brothers dead, or wounded of body and spirt. This along with other things caused us to question all the rule and to create a sub culture that still evolves, with your help. Back to the distraction. Kids now have lots to do and alot of it is something you can do by yourself so the need to conect is less. Strive to make that conection with others of like mind , change what you don't like. Live by example and show others the way. You all know we can change the world even if it's done one person at a time.
    Peace

    Hello everybody!
Can anybody help me what´s wrong with the editor? Any time I want to get a new thread and try to write something I always receive an announcement -"this command is invalid or not implemented". thanks a lot

I´d like to ask the old ones what happened to them. I mean WHERE ARE THE HIPPIES OF 60´s NOW?
What jobs do you have now? Is your life still like in your hippies era or are you indistinguishable from other people of your age? Why?

I have recently read a biography of Janis Joplin. It seems it must have been difficult to live through ... so many drugs...
I know that some of you joined the society and now live the ordinary life with house and wife and ordinary job... what happened? You lost what you were fighting against?
