i think history isalways comming back in higher technolugicalaty or whatever. Hippies, hmm ,,, there will certainly be nu-protesters, right?, there will certainly be nu-peace keepers rigyht?, there will certainly be potheads/acidheads/mushroomgrubers/nanana in the future cuz you know.. its just that fockin awsome to be that fockin snazzy! haha. And i think evry bit of love brought all together from all the hippies in the world (dead AND alive) will reunite and make another great loving generation... hopefully thats whats gonna happen!
^^ I agree. I think something such as the hippie counter culture will come back in some way. Hopefully soon too. I dunno...I have a feeling that something significant is going to happen in the near future (I'm just not sure what.) Anyhow, I keep hippies alive by being one. I'm all about peace and love plus I'm also a pothead! I'm trying shrooms and acid in the very near future as well.
God, it's way more then drugs. Being a hippie is about believin in love and unity, caring for nature and other things, that will never die. Hippie and drugs are pared together, just a freaking stereotype, like that punks are all trouble making dicks. As long as there is kindness and love for the earth in your hearts and questioning of the ststis quo and mainstream morals and oppinions, there will be hippies, weather they fit the stereotypes or not.
Different cultures keep getting integrated into "hippie" culture. It started with the beats and then the hippie culture developed. This culture keeps taking on other things and changing. So, yes and no. The original hippie culture is really only being kept alive by a few, but it's remnants and effects are still going strong. The scene is different, but it's still their. I expect it will be for a while too. You could also look at "hippie" being a state of mind, in which case it will be aroud forever.

I believe that "hippies" will live on...I myself would say that i am a "new-hippie" being only 19, but I have a young son who i believe and hope will help to carry on the thoughts and ideals of the elder generation and the newer generation.
of course there will be hippies. everyone has different beliefs. society can't control us to the point of eliminating an entire belief.
I think hippies will still be around in 30 years, or at least the hippie mindset. they may be called hippies anymore but they will be here. Also if i live for 30 more years then I say def. yes there will be atleast one hippie, lol.
hippy maker... thats it! lol before i started smoking pot and dropping acid i was a pretty "hardcore" goth kid... my favorite bands were sisters of mercy and tones on tail.. haha but after doing LOTS of acid ive turned into more of some weird cross between goth and hippy.. haha and my favorite groups are infected mushroom, the doors and ween. wow.. what happened.. lol. i believe that a hippy doesnt have to be the people that fought for revolution in the 60's a hippy is anyone that shares in there beliefs.. if you look at the hippies in the 60's they varried in attitude, dress, likes... but they still banded together. for my generation i feel that we almost have a good standing to say that we are hippies or nu-hippies or what ever not just b/c of our beliefs but because of this fucked up war that were in the middle of... the only thing my generation is missing is some REAL FUCKING LEADERS... i am a HARDCORE liberal and i would kill to get out and try to change things but there are no activist leaders... people think there terrorist anyway... being a hippy wasnt just about love, drugs and freedom... it was about the warmongering and injustice that was happening all thru the country... LSD just happened to be the catalist.
as long as there are psychedelics and people willing to fight the government and its stupid, evil decisions.. there will be hippies.
Lets face it. The hippie lifestyle is no longer "Cool". There will be less and less hippies as time goes on. The concept however, will never fade. Peace and Love is the logical lifestyle to live by.
see i thought the hippy thing was goin out of "style" until i went to kinetic.. its a huge psytrance rave that they throw here in seattle at the science center twice a year... there actually called kinetic and magnetic and they happen on the equinoxes. i have never seen so many sets of dreads in one place in my life... not even at hempfest. lol... i dont know about everywhere else but seattle is stuffed full of hippy all the time. lol.
my opinion is that hippies movement was one of a kind and an outcome of a very specific sety of conditions, history, culture and drugs that appeared as something new...iMHO it is not likely that a smiiliar situation will come about again there will be other movements, but so wide spread and people will not be so unified by them as it was the case with the 60s and 70s
So I saw this thread a few months ago. At the time I thought what anybody over 30 would think. Of course there will still be hippies in 30 years, after all, those of us in our 30’s plan on still being alive then. Of course I suppose the gist of the question was, will there still be a large group of us? Will the music scene still be happening? Or will the scene have fizzled out and damn near faded away by then? Well I have the answer for you. I’ll try to keep this short. Back in December I flew out to Colorado for a couple of Leftover Salmon shows. I ended up staying for the YMSB New Year’s shows as well. I took a hippy drunk bus from Boulder to Denver each night. There was a keg on the bus and everyone was under 24, besides me of course. Well I’m the social type and made quite a few friends on the bus. I like to talk, and am very passionate about Leftover Salmon. Well however much I talked up Leftover, the kids talked up Cornmeal even more. My first festival this year was Tree Huggers Ball in WV. Cornmeal played Friday night. I hadn’t had a chance to listen to them, though I certainly hadn’t forgotten what the Boulder kids had to say about them. The band members all seemed fairly young and I’ve got to tell you, Cornmeal is one bad ass band. If your down with Newgrass, Cornmeal will soon rule the world, I shit you not. So I can tell you that the music scene has the talent to carry us forward. I can also tell you that the kids are aware and receptive towards the music. All in all, I’d say we’re in good hands. I hung out and chatted a bit with the fiddle player from Cornmeal, after the show. I told her that Cornmeal had restored my faith in humanity, and I mentioned this thread. Thanks for reading folks. I wouldn’t have written it if it didn’t mean something to me.
Hey, I'm a 16-year old girl that would like to think of herself as a hippie, although I do not like to label myself. I have been fascinated with all this since a young age and I think it's where I fit in. I want there to still be some place where i belong when i go off into the world...I don't care what happens, I just want to be with people like the people in Across The Universe and hair, and of course my idols John Lennon (somewhat, because he was extremely rich xD), Jerry Garcia Janis jOplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Grace Slick, tho they were most likely not hippies anyway...if I'm making any sense. now I barely get to go on here so... email me battosai_kenshin_lover@yahoo.com ^don't ask xD^ Thanks people! Pace and love and :deadxmas:
