http://www.sptimes.com/2007/09/09/Opinion/One_bomb_away_from_lo.shtml The Bush/Cheney administration is slowly eroding away those constitutional rights guaranteed all Americans in the Bill of rights. http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/infousa/facts/funddocs/billeng.htm We, as a nation must put an end to this now. My greatest fear is that there will either be no election for president due to the current administration using some emergency act to extend its powers beyond the scope of constitutional limits, or another power hungry candidate will use fear of terrorism to get him or herself elected, and continuing to erode our rights "for our own good". We have seen this happen in the past. Andrew Jackson, Indian removal act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_New_Echota Abraham Lincoln, removal of Habeas Corpus http://teachingamericanhistory.org/library/index.asp?document=425 Japanese/American internment camps http://www.nps.gov/nr/twhp/wwwlps/lessons/89manzanar/89manzanar.htm And of course, the so called Patriot Act http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/l110101a.html We must not let fear overcome common sense, if you love your civil liberties, act now.
These are your rights people! We do not want the US to turn into a police state. Did you know that the John Warner Defense Authorization Act that Bush signed into law gives him the right to send federal troops into any US state to take over for the local authorities if he feels that a domestic threat to the US government exists? This would include peaceful protests or attempts to bring about major change in the way our government is run.
Pls. We have faced times just as tough and we come out of it okay. Yes adjustments are needed and changes made. But remember from all those who blame Bush there is a congress who has the lowest poll numbers in history. Remember co-equal branchs of gov.
^^^^ So would you advocate sitting back, doing nothing, it will all work it's way out in the end? "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke) BTW I blame congress for allowing these things to happen, both republican and democrat. However the "equal" branches of government are no longer equal. The president now has powers that he was never intended to have. Please read the US Constitution for specifics on the responsibilities, duties and powers of the three branches of the Federal government. http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html
