Hi i ate at this vegitatian resturant last week and i ordered this stir fry over brown rice with tempeh. i never tried tempeh before....but i LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! they made it really good..anyt tips on how to make it taste really good? maybe add some sort of spices? do u grill it on a pan on the oven? any receipes for tempeh? thanks so much!
Tempeh cut into thick blocks, marinated in olive oil or ponzu sauce and grilled on stovetop is my favorite way to eat it. I usually put tempeh in pastas and on sandwiches. Tempeh spaghetti is my current favorite. Probably the best vegetarian food there is!
i've been making stirfry with it alot lately, so far it's my favorite way to eat it. This is the recipe I've been using. it looks long, but it's really very quick, very easy... 4 ounces soy tempeh or 3-grain tempeh -- cut into 1/2-inch -- pieces 1/4 cup light soy sauce 1 tablespoon rice vinegar 3 garlic cloves -- minced 2 teaspoons minced peeled fresh ginger 1/8 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper 12 ounces broccoli -- stems peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces, florets cut into 1-inch pieces 2 tablespoons water 1 teaspoon honey style sweetener 1 teaspoon cornstarch 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper 2 tablespoons thinly sliced green onion Stir tempeh, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger and crushed red pepper in medium bowl to blend. Let marinate 1 hour at room temperature. Steam broccoli until crisp-tender, about 3 minutes. Set aside. Strain marinade from tempeh into small bowl; set tempeh aside. Whisk 2 tablespoons water, honey/sweetener and cornstarch into marinade. Heat oil in large nonstick skillet over high heat. Add marinated tempeh and bell pepper and sauté 4 minutes. Add broccoli and marinade mixture and saute until broccoli is heated through and sauce thickens, about 3 minutes. Transfer to bowl. Sprinkle with green onion and serve. Perfect with rice!! I also wanna add that I'd never even heard of tempeh until I was talking to a woman at the health store, she told me that tofu is no good for you because it's not fermented and doesn't digest easily. Tempeh is fermented...actually wikipedia has an article on it, you should read it.
I'm addicted to terriyaki, personally. Whenever I get my hands on tempeh I tend to marinate it in terriyaki sauce and grill it to go with a terriyaki stir-fry over brown rice.
