hello all i have just measured up the dimensions of my growroom wich is a bit of storage room that opens into my kitchen. it has two large vents that lead directly outside. Grow room size 0.5m, 1m, 2m *i wanted to find out weather the small width of my growroom is going to cause problems. do the plants need alot of lateral space, do they tend to grow wide. If so will this cause problems with the light not reaching lower levels. will the limited width cause growth problems. i am only planing on growing a couple plants. *wich will be the best light fot this type of setup. *wat sort of mixes do you guys use i was thinking on going with a 30% perlite 30% vermucite (not to sure of the spelling) and the rest john innes, or a really good compost. what would you guys recommend.
If you air cooled the hood then a 400w would fit nice in there I think. You can train the plants to keep them short, but that space is fine. Like I said in the other thread I use promix with perlite added. I've never heard of that compost, just make sure there are no huge pieces of bark or anything in it. Sounds good. Good luck bro, LUNE
hey bud, as for the soil mix, if your using those ingredients. Id do like 20%perlite, 20%vermiculite, 60% soil. I've seen quite a few grows on other MJ forums where they used John Innes soil and had no problems. You should be good to grow with that mix! Although, if it were me, id add a bit of dolomite lime to the mixture.
Have been at work setting up my grow room installing fans and wot not but i have a couple questions to ask once again. i was firstly interested in buying female seeds simply because i was worried that my grow room was too small to grow and flower say 10 plants to get say 5 females (which would probably just fit in my grow room) i thought by buying the 5 feminized seeds it would be less hassel. however alot of the strains i have been interested in growing are not available in feminized seeds. i wanted to enquire about the process of taking cuttings and flowering them to get the sex of the mother plant. what sort of size will the plants be when i take the cutting and how long will it take the cutting to show its sex. would it work something like this.. if i take the cuttings when the mother plants are say 1ft tall and it takes 2 weeks to flower the cuttings and obtain the sex. within the two weeks it takes for the cuttings to show sex the mother plants in veg stage will grow a few slightly taller. this way i can hold the 10 plants in the space i have and once the cuttings show thier sex i can get rid of the males and veg the fewer females to a size that the room will hold. is this sort of how it works if not could you give me some advise thanks for all the previous help. ps hope my example wasnt to confusing
dboi: That'll work. Take a cutting from the mother when it's like 4-6 weeks old atleast, root it in ur favourite medium with some root hormone if you got it, wait up to 3 weeks under 18h+ lights for the roots (some strains root in days, some take up to 3 weeks, so I hear) and until you see the clone starting to grow a little bit, then flower it under 12/12 lights some 2 weeks and you will see sex (or sexes =). Your problem will be to keep mother(s) in veg stage (they need less than 12h darkness to stay in veg), and you will either need to divide your space in 2 light-tight spaces, or set up another space for flowering.. With your single space setup, I'd still buy fem seeds and go from seed to done, and then start over again.. You can keep flourescent lights in your kitchen or sth to start your next grow a little early before the last one is done and you'll have a nice schedule quite soon..
cheers for the info mate. went to my local grow shop and they have said the same thing. im just gonna start with 2 packs of 5 feminized seeds each. Ive decided on white rhino (greenhouse) and blueberry (dutch passion).have any one of you had experience with biobizz all mix. *did you add anything to it ie perlite *what nutes did you use with it and in what stage of growth.
Keep close watch for hermaphrodites with those fem. seeds. Never used BioBizz, but it is usualy a good idea to add some pearlite to most soils, to get some air to the roots and help with drainage. Also check the ph and add some dolomite lime if the soil is hot. Feeding soil depends alot on your specific conditions. Definatly not for the first couple weeks. After that go easy.
