So, I work in a hotel. I do housekeeping. My doctor had specifically told me not to clean anymore because my allergies are so bad. I use bleach, ammonia, and tons of aerosol cleaners.

Do you know how bad those cleaners are for the environment?! It's terrible! It is terrible for you and for the environment!

So, I have a new method to cleaning. Not only is it a new method, but using it is equivelant to planting 10 trees every time you use it. It's amazing!

I was wondering, however, what your cleaning methods are to reduce pollution?

yeah, cleaning products are really toxic nowadays. i suspect industry is disposing of toxic chemicals by selling them to us as cleaning supplies.

i think the best kept open secret in cleaning is washing soda. it's made by the same people who make baking soda. you can use it for scrubbing or dilute it in water and put it in a spray bottle for household cleaning. you can use it to stretch your expensive natural detergent too. a handful or two dissolved in water will deodorize and remove laundry stains in the wash. it's only a couple of bucks a box, and you can still get it in most US grocery stores and some co-ops. good stuff.

I've been using Begley's Best cleaners. The all purpose cleaner has no odor at all. The glass cleaner is vinegar based (my daughter says it smells like Easter eggs-lol!). They are made by Ed Begley Jr.'s company and all profits go to charity.

My friend uses a brand of cleaners called Method. They are environmentally safe and work better than most industrial strength cleaners.

I use Ecover cleaners and I love them! They work just as well and are also environmentally safe.

The ingredients in these cleaners are safe and mostly non-allergenic.

I usually use vinegar mixed with water for most of my cleaning. It works great! I also use baking soda. Both work better than most chemical cleaners and are cheaper, too.

Baking soda is the best cleaner out there and one of the cheapest and easiest on the environment. If you don't believe me just try it.

Walker is right Baking Soda and Vinegar are about all anyone needs.

Make good plant sprays too. Here's a simple recipe for an all purpose plant spray works great for powdery mildew and aphids.

    1 cup milk
    1 tbsp baking soda
    1 tbsp vegetable oil
    1 tbsp dishwashing soap
fill the rest of a gallon container with water

Don't know why it works but it does.

Try using soda instead of scrubbing powders in your kitchen or bath sinks, your septic and porcelain will thank you. Works great on appliances like fridges, and stoves too.

And instead of drainO. Pour soda down the pipe, and then follow with vinegar, stand back it reacts.
