Is that the right word, 'ripping'? Im looking for something that will save a video that Im watching to my computer , is this possible? Im not very computer minded, will I be able to get a free programme to do this? Thanks R
Yes. Use Firefox and install the Video Downloader add-on that rips the video directly to an FLV file. The saved file won't have the FLV extension. The file name needs to be renamed with an FLV extension (.FLV). Then you can watch it on a player that plays FLV. Or you can convert the FLV to an MPEG or WMV or a bunch of other formats using the free conversion program called SUPER. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2390 .
The minimum you need to do is add the FLV extension to the file. This is easier than trying to do screen captures with something like Camtasia Studio. .
if i was gonna go through all that id take the extra couple steps and burn it to videodisc or dvd or somethin. that would be cool a dvd with all your favorite youtube videos on it and you can just take it anywhere to a friends house.
That's what I do. You need to get them to MPEG first. Then you can burn anything you want to a DVD. .
VideoDownloader stopped working for me a few days ago. Not sure why. It worked fine for about 6 months. It could be the VideoDownloader server or something that changed at Youtube. There's another program called Zillatube that downloads Youtube videos and converts them to whatever format you want. I tried it and it works ok. It's not free, though. .
Low quality but better than nothing. They can be saved on a CD as VCD since they take up little space compared with full resolution DVD video. .
This ripper works ok. Just put the youtube URL in the box and save the file as a .FLV. http://www.aliasinteractive.com/widgets/youtube/ripperv1a.html More info about the above ripper: http://selfstasis.com/2006/11/youtube-flv-ripper/ .
There's a browser called Maxthon 2 that has a file sniffer built in. It will find the location of Youtube videos, RM, etc. Here's a site about stream ripping: http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/ .
also you could check your temp folder in IE or your cache folder in firefox they contain the flashfile....
