But and and at the beginning of sentences are matters of style, general rules to be broken for effect But do'nt get me start'd on people who use also at the end of a sentence

 

but sometimes using but at the beginning of the sentence sounds right.

I tend to do that. Sometimes, a full stop and a smiley can work. Other times it just looks odd.

 

i prefer the period AND the smilie also.

 

Don't forget, Ulrich Haarbürste used such stylisations in his epic tales of Roy Orbison in clingfilm.

Lithium, if it gets on your nerves when people don't use periods at the end of sentences, I bet you love my ... I tend to always use.


The other day I found this quote, which this entire thread so aptly reminds me of and thus, I must share it, as there probably aren't many places I can use this quote and have it apply to the conversation.

I was also reminded of that! I think "also" is used in German as a general exclamation like "aha!", with the emphasis on the so, thus: also! Also, also is ok if you say it with a German accent, also!

American spelling doesn't annoy me when used by Americans but when it's employed by Brits I find it a little grating - they should know better. Not quite sure where phoenix_indigo stands being a yank living in Blighty so I'm puzzled as to whether I should be annoyed about her "jewelry" (jewellery) thread or not:tongue:
