www.eurweb.com *After dining with civil rights activist Al Sharpton at famed Harlem restaurant Sylvia's recently, Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly told a radio audience he "couldn't get over the fact" that there was no difference between the black-run establishment and other restaurants. "It was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun," he said, according to the Associated Press. "And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all." O'Reilly made the comments during his nationally-syndicated radio broadcast last week. The liberal media watchdog Media Matters for America called attention to them by distributing a transcript and audio clip on the Internet. O'Reilly, who treated Sharpton to dinner as a thank you for appearing on his Fox program, pointed to the lack of difference between Sylvia's and other restaurants as an example of racial progress. He also noted that he went to an Anita Baker concert recently where the audience was evenly mixed between blacks and whites. "The band was excellent, but they were dressed in tuxedoes, and this is what white America doesn't know, particularly people who don't have a lot of interaction with black Americans," he said. "They think the culture is dominated by Twista, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg." "This is nothing more than left-wing outlets stirring up false racism accusations for ratings," said Bill Shine, senior vice president for programming at Fox News Channel. "It's sad." During a general discussion about racial relations with Fox News analyst Juan Williams, O'Reilly said he believed black Americans were "starting to think more and more for themselves" and backing away from a race-based culture encouraged by Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Williams agreed that too many people believe there's little else in black culture beyond profane rap. "That's right," O'Reilly said. "There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, `M.F.-er, I want more iced tea." Sharpton said he was taken aback that anyone would be surprised at how blacks acted at Sylvia's and will ask O'Reilly on "The O'Reilly Factor" Wednesday to explain what he meant. Karl Frisch, a spokesman for Media Matters, called O'Reilly's comments "ignorant and racially charged."
he "couldn't get over the fact" that blacks did not live up to the racial stereotypes that conservatives believe. I find that racist and ignorant.
I think the main problem with O'reilly's comments was that he was basically calling those Blacks at that restaurant "articulate" and "well spoken". Many Blacks don't like it when whites point out how well spoken they are because it comes from the mindset that all Blacks are just one way, then when they meet a Black person who's "different" some whites are shocked and suprised.
Then we should be amazed when whites like O'Reilly come off as stupid uneducated rednecks? I think more and more that's the norm for whites! Funny thing is they receive big paychecks and are applauded as pundits.
Well, funny thing is no one ever dared call Adolf Hitler racist during his time. And the German Catholic Church sure never dared excommunicate him for murdering 6 million Jews.
Wait, I'm trying to figure this out. How does this make him a racist? I mean, I don't like Bill O' Reily, and most of his views are kinda on the stupid side, but saying how surprised he was that a restaraunt that is mostly frequented by black people is a lot like one that is frequented by white people isn't racist. It's kinda narrow-minded, but it's not something worth getting in a fit about. I mean, every intelligent person knows that you can't go by stereotypes, and that everyone is different in their own way. So what's the point behind even caring what he says? For the record, I really don't like Al Sharpton either. Both him and Bill are just opportunists who look for any small thing that they can turn into a national uproar. Go by what we liberals say when the conservatives hate something we enjoy on TV: if you don't like it, turn the channel. You're not being forced to watch or listen to it.
As far as I can discern, that's a racist statement by today's standards of political correctness. From the sound bites they played on the radio here, his whole dissertation came off as "I can't believe they're civilized!!!" If that's not an insult, I don't know what is. I don't appreciate all the political correctness we're subjected to as a society as much as the next guy, but if I have to play by those rules, then so does Bill. Yup.
It's funny how this gets huge national media attention, yet large radical groups who explicitly state that the only solution is exterminate white people are ignored. Anyway, let's be honest people, right now African American culture is has a victim attitude, meaning they blame all their short-comings on someone else(White people), meaning that their culture continues to glorify ghetto culture, which not only fuels the stereotypes, but makes a lot of them come true. Not to say that all African Americans are stereotypical, but a large number are.
