As I stated in an earlier thread I have recently become vegetarian. I was having some problems finding recipes that I like. I looked online and found some there and bought a few books but they really didn't have much in them, that is until I found the vegan witha vengance book. I think it is a great book and the recipes are really cheap to make, not to mention that the author is pretty hot Has anyone else read this or do you know of any other books like this
I just bought this myself. Looks pretty good. I made my first dinner from it Sunday-Chipotle, black bean and corn stew. VERY spicy, but I like it that way. The only thing that I don't like is that a lot of the recipes call for white flour and sugar. I love that it doesn't use any of the fake "meats" that are so processed and expensive.
yeah, she does use alot of white flour but I think she also has a section in there saying how to use whole grain flour in place of white
There are a lot of veggie cook books. My mom got me "the essential vegetarian cookbook." Its a borders book I think. I've only made one thing from it (and it was really yummy) and I definitely wanna make more things... its just hard getting all the ingredients and planning to make it before my veggies go bad ya know. Everything looks soooo yummy though its wonderful. And in the beginning there's a whole section for how to have a balanced vegetarian diet and stuff, its great!
Oh yes I love that book Could happily live off the spinach & chickpea curry. The author is bringing out a new book next month, so that should be good too.
Isa has a new book, the Veganomicron (take off on Necronomicon, I'm guessing) with Terry Hope Romero. for personality, Isa can't be beat. but for other simple and straightforward books, look at any of the Moosewood books (get 'em from the library first, and ignore the always there fish section...they are part of the problem) Vegan Vittles is pretty simple Tassajara Cookbook is a MUST. any basic book with the process, including Better Homes & gardens (again-library) or Joy of Cooking. Rodale has a Natural (omni) Foods Cookbook. I quite like Cookin' with the Dead by Elizabeth Zipern. Don't know if it is still in print.
Another good one is Vegan Planet. It's mostly a recipe book, but also includes vegan health information and what you should keep around the house.
