i got a new big 500ml glass german-style mug, a sam adams octoberfest glass...it was a gift, and i LOVE new glassware, and i love marzen (octoberfest) style beers... so anyway today i went and bought two bottles of paulaner octoberfest, which has actually been available all year but really is something i tend to prefer in the early autumn, so i dont buy it for most of the year. anyway, they're like 2.20 each for a big 500ml bottle, and its only 5.8%abv.... well, i'm a big fan of sipping and savoring beer, especially if its good/expensive beer. this stuff isnt ungodly expensive, but its pricey. well, i poured it, and it was the perfect pour....right up to the line, not too much head.....it looked great. well, i chugged it...bottoms up, dont stop drinking and take a breath till the half liter is drained. its sometimes a struggle for me to chug a 12oz bottle of light beer....but i just drank half a liter of beer in like 5 sec.....and its catching up with me....i'm definitely a touch more buzzed but it was a stupid idea, i didnt get to enjoy the flavor for nearly as long, and now i only have one beer left in the fridge (sierra nevada anniversary ale)
i dont get it. it says on the forum menu that someone replied, but when i get in here my post is the only one i see. smooje replied, though, apparently...?
never done a beer bong, never really think i will. i dont understand the point. i usually prefer to just sip, like i said. sometimes it can take me as much as half an hour to forty five minutes to finish a beer. but if i want to drink it fast and actually have a light enough stomach to do so, i can just do it...though i dont think i have chugged more than that half liter before. maybe a 20 or 22 oz beer though...i dunno... but usually i just drink at a normal pace, i dont try to do it as fast as possible. if i really want to get really drunk really fast i'll do shots of a liqueur like jagermeister or b&b or some other drink thats kinda sweet and decently strong, or even just hard liquor do love some rum and tequila
i love sipping a heavy german beer, eventually the end results will be drunkenness but with beer i like to take my time to get there.
exactly^ and i've heard fat tire is some good stuff, but i've not been able to get it here...new belgium isnt distributed in ohio. i did go out to washington state in june, though, and they have it there...but i went with the trippel instead
yeah, me too. When I turn 21 (or when the drinking age is lowered :toetap, I'll have more of an opportunity to try different kinds of alcohol. I've never really liked beer, though. Maybe it's because I haven't had "real" (German.... weiss) beer.
I did a kindda similar thing. I got my first signifacntly size paycheck, so to celerbrate, i bought an 1/8 of trainwreck, and smoked it all in one sitting, two hours. Even though normally, i would spread it out over like two weeks, with mids thrown inbetween. I am out of my mind right now, like i seiously feel like i am ganna pass out.
sometimes i think the forums just like to fuck with you. for example, this thread is listed as being 2 pages long right now, but the second page is blank...
Flat Tire.. i fuckin hate that shit.. its nasty... i was given a case of it at one time and i had one.. traded the rest of the case for a $50 sack.. because you werent able to get it in minnesota at the time.. and the only way they sell it now is in 22oz singles
ive never done a beer bong and probably only ever chugged a beer once or twice id rather walk around with it or just sit and sip depending on where i am but when i feel it getting warm i drink the rest fast can you get the good german kinds at local liquor stores? ive never really looked
it really depends on the store. some liquor stores have good beer selections, most dont. you're often better off at specialty beer, wine, or occasionally tobacco/cigar stores. some groceries, particularly places like whole foods, have really good selections. there are really good beers from the us, uk, belgium, germany, and the czech republic, and some from canada and other places as well.... every location is different, and its hit or miss with liquor stores, just like with groceries or wine shops i'd suggest getting a free account at beeradvocate.com, then you can use their beerfly feature to locate good beer retail and bar establishments in your area, and can educate yourself about different styles, differences in beers, and what other beer drinkers think of different beers. its a great site! the shroomery of beer, almost
I love ale way more than lager. Lagers are only good if you come in from a hard day of work and just want a less hoppy tasting beer imo. Now any sort of light beer I don't particularly care for. I usually shotgun it, unless there is a small supply, then I sip on them.
there are some good lagers out there, they just aren't as commonly available in the us. there is a wide variety of lagers with different characteristics... i will concede that there is less variety in lagers than there is in ales, but there is still a lot to choose from in terms of malt, hop, and alcohol content in lagers bocks, doppelbocks, dunkel (german dark) lagers (think st. pauli girl dark, becks dark, warsteiner dark, etc.), amber lagers, czech pilsners, euro pils, and then american (style) "macro" lagers....things like pbr, miller, budweiser, fosters, labatt blue, molson, etc. personally some of my favorites are lagers...for dark, heavy lagers i really like salvator and celebrator doppelbocks...celebrator is my favored doppelbock but quite pricey....salvator is also very good and less expensive. both are very malty, with a slightly fruity and heavily caramel flavor...to me they're smooth and sweet, very malty...taste like candy, with a little more fruit in the aroma than the taste. doppelbocks are characteristically very malty and consequently often notably higher in alcohol than your average pale-straw tasteless beers....7-9% alcohol by volume isnt uncommon...samiclaus is technically a doppelbock if i'm not mistaken, and its quite a bit stronger still i also like pilsner urquell, what is credited as being the original pilsner beer. it is slightly darker than most macrobrewery lagers you're likely used to, and slightly hoppier. its maintains a crisp and refreshing quality while slightly stepping up the hop and malt character, and i often notice a slight honey flavor. there are a lot of really good lagers
