lol. see, even followers of buddhism can't agree. people are just born to disagree about everything. if it was philosphy or faith, it'd be something else.
You see , i have to again "disagree" with you , because this is not about disagreement, this is about finding out the truth, the reason for us to be here, now, like this. I mean there is something that is deep inside of us that says " you are here on this planet, in this creation for something, it can't be just pretty girls, not making money, not just surviving, there is something more" . Finding that out is what everyone does because they have to know- in my opinion. These people- Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi(maybe) , Martin Luther king(maybe), have atleast tasted atleast one divine drop of this truth. Most people, - in my opinion- sane people would disagree if you say life is nothing but "surviving" or "making children and raising them" , these actions are there for even the animals. I mean, The animals too care for their young, their mates, their food- job... etc. For us to have this mind , this brain, this power to think , to manipulate is something of a divine nature and it has little to do with myelin sheaths in our brain or advanced type of plasticity and encoding or correlating techniques of our brains. The truth is there for us to find out why we are here, what the reason is for us to be here. To find out the answer to the eternal question "why" and it only happens when we ask ourselves "why" and share our speculations with others, its main goal is not to disagree, but to find something to agree upon- the truth.
I desagree. I take the best aspects of every spirituality and fit it all into my own perspective of the world, I do not have to fit into any of them.
i will agree with you. disagreement is not bad. it's how we learn. i disagree with nearly everything. the fact taht you have disagreed with bravesirrubins take on buddhism is the perfect example. disagreement was never bad, it's why we were born to do it. however, some people don't know how to disagree wihtout feeling threatened. it's not the disagreement that causes harm, it's the ego being "attacked" that causes harm. therefore disagreement based on religion is not inherently bad, it's necessary for growth. so saying that we should get rid of religion, as someone here posted, to avoid conflict is inherently incorrect, and possibly disastrously so.
I would like to write something more than this here but I don't have a whole bunch of time right now. Tomorrow hopefully.
Hey, I believe in god, man. I've seen him, I've felt his power! He plays drums for Led Zeppelin and his name is John Bonham, baby!
Hey, I believe in god, man. I've seen him, I've felt his power! He plays drums for The Who and his name is Keith Moon, baby!

Seems like the in the past god (like one being who made everything) was a certainty. Now, at best he may and he may not be real. The one thing if you "want" to believe in god is disociate all religion from "him". All religions "want" something from you, not from god. Mostly money and power but a lot of crimes through history have been commited in the name of a god or other. Personally, speaking only for myself - there is no god (as one entity who rules supreme in a magical land). Why? Well, the argument of not being able to deny something is not enough for me. I believe there are planets because there are pictures of them, books, I can see the Moon, Mars at certain times of the year, ect... I believe in other things too that I cannot see but that make sense - wind, will power, love - they have an effect on everyday life and they make sense in the world we live in where one "block" is build upon another. But, a god that lives in the chocolate land and gives wings and sends messages to priest on what they should do? What use or reason would this have? I have it - we are putting ourselves on a pedestal by creating this legend of which we are of a divine creation. I believe that humans can be more than the sum of their physical being - they can create art and give love that is divine. Animals can also give love - sacrifice themselves for the ones they love. Unfortunately, I don't believe we have a soul that after death is unwrapped and evaluated then, given an according place in a mythical god's esteem. And you know what? I don't need that. If for argument sake's it would be all true, wouldn't it be better we didn't know about it? People would be nice because they want to not to have some "afterlife candy". And that, is my real honest take on that subject. Hope I don't shock too many with a little bit of realism...
