I plan on doing a 6 day fast this thursday. Ive done plenty of these fasts but recently Im working out. Will this have a severe impact on my muscle because I dont want to lose much obviously.
i'm wondering why a 15 year old is fasting in the first place? but to answer your questing, they''ll probably be some atrophy of muscle, but nothing to get worked up over...then with the refeed it'll resume normal-ness...
Huh? Fasting's great for all ages... Anyway, you will lose some muscle over the course of a 6 day fast. The good news is that it will be half as easy to build it back up once you've completed the fast. Don't lift weights while you're fasting. In order to grow, muscles need to be recharged with protein, which you won't be getting, so just take it easy and enjoy your week!
if he's doing it for spiritual reasons, fine...whatever but i don't buy that shit for getting healthy. eat natural foods, lean meats, fruits and veggies and you'll be fine...no need to fast - i'm sorry, i just dont' buy that crap
You'll lose some muscle, but not much, and at age 15 (and fasting for 6 days) you won't have a problem putting it back on. Like others said, don't work out while fasting, or immediately before or after fasting. Do, of course, drink a lot of fluids. Pay a lot of attention to how your body feels--take it real easy. In that period of time your body will start using both its fat stores and its lean mass for energy, not one or the other. Just don't push yourself too much. Having said all that, I'm also sort of of the belief that a 15 year old doesn't need to be fasting for six days--your body doesn't need that right now. I can appreciate the spiritual exploration, however. Just be gentle with yourself, take it easy, and pace yourself. I might consider trying a shorter fast period first. Good luck!
