I just took a few photos of my dreads after dying them black after having rainbow colors in them for quite awhile.

I posted the wool felting tutorial, and had a plethora of rainbow colors throughout my locks.

I needed to dye them since I'm a bridesmaid in my little sister's upcoming wedding, and attending my niece's wedding next month as well.

I dyed my locks last about a week and a half ago, and the wool took the dye pretty well. The pictures are kind of crappy as my digital camera's flash always is super-intense and all.... Oh well.

Oh, and you can really see all my loose hair at the roots at the back of my head. I've got to get out my felting needle or something to take care of that....

sick! that color really makes them look intense and very tightly knotted. nice shots! and cool color choice.

Thanks :) I wasnt really wanting to dye it, but felt like I had to do it to appease my extended family.... I dyed it with plenty of time before the weddings in the hopes that if it came out way too dark that the color would fade somewhat.

I'm guessing about 7 months..... I didnt keep track of when I started them, and don't take many pictures :-(

I started them by backcombing, and do the occasional palmroll, but that is getting less and less. I've got very coarse, curly-wavy-frizzy hair, so my hair knots up very quickly. I've also used the felting needle on them quite abit.....

About to the middle of my back..... The only time I had a set of dreads shrink up a LOT was with my first set. I had surgery when they were about 6 mos. old (that was like 6 years ago) and they seemed to really shrink up and mutate when I was laid up recovering. Otherwise I've been lucky and havent lost too much length (of course a bit, but nothing hideous).

My first set ever pretty much melted off when I tried using pink hairdye that included bleach (in all one step). The hairdye was very harsh, and it literally made the dreads the consistency of gooey cotton candy..... if you just touched them they'd fall apart and break off :-( That is why now I will only dye my hair with natural darker hair dye, will never bleach my dreads again, and will only use wool (the felting method) to add fun colors to my locks.

I tried to comb them out, then realized (rather quickly) that it just wasnt going to work keeping them. I didnt cut them til the next day. I was hoping the situation would look brighter the next day, but if you would just touch my hair it would just fall to pieces. I had no choice but to cut..... It was really traumatizing, and I cried for a good 2 to 3 days. When I called my mom to tell her that I cut my dreads I was bawling like someone had died :-(

My mom probably wasnt too concerned, as she never really liked my dreadlocks (probably still doesnt) and she always referred to them as my "dreadfuls" (which I actually think is really pretty cute).

thats some serious dread diggin', doubt the OP is around anymore. round tips are usually felted though..or wait no, crochetted? something like that, the tips just pulled inside the dread basically

but uhm, nevertheless i gotta say WTF aswell, when i opened the thread i was like "holy crap, these are some old and mature dreads" ..reminded me of the steel pulse guys dreads whos name i dont remember atm (dno why it reminded me if him..dread texture i guess). and then read "7 months" ... ....
