I don't really have a set percent. When I have lots of money, I tend to tip lots. When I don't, I tend not to. It's the way of the world.

    Ouch.
I dont know yet. I still have 6 or 7 years to decide. Hematology wouldnt be bad....or cardiology. Maybe even surgery...but I still have a long way to go.
You usually apply for a few things and they basically give you anything, no matter what u really want.
But my favourite is pathology ( or whatever u call it ).

Assuming service was good I am a very generous tipper. If it is a place I like to frequent a lot I tip very well and I get the "star" treatment whenever I return.

So I went to get a cappucino today. And I tipped the waiter. It was weird. And he looked at me all surprised. I felt so strange. I am not doing that again. Not ever.

In restaurants, I always tip. The amount depends on the ability/friendliness of the waiter/waitress. Extra service gets more, crappy service geys decidedly less. In bars I will almost always buy at least a drink for the barperson who served me.

I think it's just common courtesy.

I've lived with waitresses and I know what a shit job it can be.I never tipped when I was young and stupid--and I gave the servers a lot of wise -ass bullshit when I was drunk. But I try and tip 30 to 40% to make up for all the nice waitresses I stiffed years ago.A lot of single moms are waitresses and the greedy government fuckers make them pay a percentage of their tips(gratuities freely given and not wages)wether they get the tips or not.So pricks that don't tip should go to "all you can eat "buffets where they can serve themselves and save their precious little dollars.

in most european countries, the tip is worked into the bill!!!!!!

If you don't tip in the usa...have fun....hahahahahha: crappy service, spit in the food, all a possibility.

They serve you, of course they deserve a little money from you. They get paid under the mininium wage! Have some compassion for these people. The "get another job" does not fly.

wow, if more people were like you, we'd have a lot more bartenders leaving work early to go puke and pass out

So I should tip someone just to make sure they dont spit in my food ?
Its hard for me to have compassion for people who ll spit in my food unless I pay them not to.
    But whatever...

I think the point is if you cannot afford to tip then don't go out to eat. :)

Waiters/waitresses are paid below minimum wage. This legality is an acknowledgment that a tip is an expected part of the transaction. If you are given good service, the server deserves something to compensate. Conversely, If you receive poor service (without reasonable cause- I do make allowances for it being extremely busy) then a low or no tip is appropriate.

I tend to tip 15-20% on average. When I eat out, the question of economy is out the window. I try to have some compassion for people who are struggling- and a waitperson is usually someone living from paycheck to paycheck... and dealing with people at their worse in the process (some restaurant patrons like to push waiters/waitresses around as though they were servants).
