Hey everybody. I've been browsing this forum all afternoon and decided to go ahead and register so I can stop lurking. Hehe. My dreads are a little over a month old. We backcombed and I have been waxing them very lightly (I have very straight hair that hasn't seen a brush in probably 3 years and yet didn't have a knot in it when we went to backcomb). I really want to ditch the wax but I'm afraid to. I washed the other day and didn't wax until the next day because I washed late and night and they needed to dry first, and in those couple of hours I managed to lose 4 dreads. My husband is great at palm rolling them for me, but he's starting to get frustrated that they keep falling out. I think he'd refuse to touch me if I decided to stop waxing because all his hard work would go away. lol So...someone convince me to ditch the wax please! lol I read something about using aloe gel. Maybe we'll try that instead? I'm also having a friend of mine felt my dreads sometime soon, so maybe that will help the process, too. I'm actually pretty happy with them right now, just scared to death I'll lose them all if I try to leave them alone. Oh, and here are the most recent pics I have, although these are like, week 2 or 3 and it's been probably 2-3 weeks since then. I'll have my husband take some pics tomorow.
dreads aren't immediate and it'll take time before they knot up. the best dreads i have are the ones that fell out and reformed on their own. if you look closely at your dreads, you'll see the hair is just held together in place by the wax and not knotting. wax gives the appearance of dreadlocks but none of the actual substance. looking at that picture, i can see lots of "dreads" that don't look like they have a single knot in them. so dump the wax and let your hair do its thing. just my opinion, and as always, you are welcome to disagree.
the wax is so bad for your dreads...just do a little research on here. and no offense, but you don't have dreads, you have little wax sticks. ditch the wax, let your hair do it's own thing.
