..sooooe ..im goin off on som travels soon with my man friend.. and as i know how useless i'll be remembering to take the pill.. thinking that its an idea to have this injection since i think it lasts for up to a year (?)..
well..im yet to go to docters.. but im wondering if anyone might tell me a lil more about it..?? Im presuming you get the injection and then thats it for a time.. not so sure how that works exactly.. is it a similar method as to how the pill works ?.. and what happens with periods? .. i havent taken pill for a few years.. but i know it can make som feel depressed.. which i seem a lil prone to... so can the injection have the same effects? .. i dont really like the idea so much of putting things into my body to change my system, its unnatural... but i think its goin to be safer anyhow...:p thankyaa ..

well, my sister went on the needle for 2 years but she got off it really fast when she stopped and thought, because what it does, is it holds in your eggs so that you CANT get your period and then when the time period is almost up and I think it's after 3 months you go get ti again and again, well if someone does this too much you can have your period until you 60 not so fun! Plus a little heads up, it's fairly new, so there havn't been long term tests done. I personally would never do it because I don't think it's right to screw around with stuff like that, but hopefully your decision is the best one for you, good luck!

Depo Provera has been around for many many years , its a very strong contraceptive - it does not work at all like described above. The side effects can be severe so have a good chat with your doc before you go on it.Peace.

Depo lasts for 3 months - you get an injection every 4 months. There are some other types of birth control that last longer, though the names escape me.. Norplant maybe? Anyways, they get implanted under your skin (as I recall from lifestyles back in gr9, so I could be wrong). Talk to your doc about the different types of birth control, they will have a lot more info

As for the side affects of Depo... for some people it's severe and others (like me) have little to no side affects. I gained about 10lbs when I started on it, and I get moody about a week after my injection for a few days. But some people do react really badly to it, ie bleeding every day. Be cautious.

ive been looking into that, as well, mainly because i need birth control for medical reasons and the pill gave me ulsers.

The shot needs to be injected every 3 months. You wont get your period. They arent sure on the after effects, in other words depending on how long youve been on it and how it effects you pesonally you may not ovulate again afterwards for 3 months to a year or more. (fine unless you plan on having children in the next few years)

depending whre your trip is to, make sure you can get the injection while youre there. dont forget, not every country has the same forms of medication/birth control.

I can tell as far as im concerned, im still torn on it. Its a huge commitment. I guess one of my biggest fears is (beside the cancer risk along with most B.Cs) what if i want to have a child and i cant ovulatef or 18 months afterwards? That could suck.

stop by a doctor or a planned parenthood, get a pamphlet on the shot, ask them questions. Its the only way to know if it will work for you.

I was dating a girl once. we were serious, so decided to look into more contraception. we went for depo provera. I wish I could tell you more about it, but I'm unable to. but so far as I could tell, there were no bad effects in her.. but everyone is diffrent, so you might want to be careful...

There is also the birth control patch too, which you only have to change once a week (if I'd known about it before I started depo, I probably would be on the patch not depo). Maybe you can talk to your doc about your problem and see what he suggests, like getting a large enough supply of the patch, or some other method. Maybe he knows someone in the area you'll be in who can help you out. Doctors are good for this stuff.
